$5 BG&E Energy Efficiency Kit
Perhaps all electric companies do this at the same time because no sooner than I saw energy efficiency kits blogged at Sound Money Tips did I receive an offer in the mail from Baltimore Gas & Electric (BG&E), my energy provider. It’s was a little brochure included in my bill this past month and offered an energy efficiency kit for a mere $5, exactly the same sort of deal mentioned at SMT.
The kit includes:
- Weatherstripping
- Comfortable, water-saving showerhead
- Water-saving kitchen faucet swivel aerator
- Water-saving bathroom swivel aerator
- Clear tape for sealing cracks and holes around windows
- Electric outlet gaskets (pack of 12)
- Informative energy conservation tips
- Furnace filter whistle
- 75-watt equivalent compact flourescent bulb
It sounds like a good deal to me because it’s been estimated that the package is worth about $50 if you try to buy the pieces from the supplier (Niagara Conservation Corp.) directly. We’ll see in four to six weeks!

Oh man, I don’t remember seeing an insert for that when I just got my last bill! I will have to check for it next time. That does sound like a good deal.
I didn’t see the insert in my BGE bill either! I’m surprised we haven’t all gotten them - Lord knows BGE needs some good press around here in Maryland lately! Poor Rob Gould. Chip Franklin on WBAL said the new harsh prison sentence in Maryland would be a lifetime sentence in the public relations department of BGE without a possiblity of parole!
Good Morning, I’m a letter carrier for the U.S.P.S. I’ve delivered quite a few of these Energy Savings Kits and I’ve also receieved e-mails about how to receive them for free & that they would soon be offered for $5.00 however when I called them this morning, Apr. 28, ‘06, they had a recording stating that they are no longer being offered due to “overwheling” requests for the kits. It didn’t appear to even offer me the option to buy one.
