I started using white vinegar as a weed killer. It’s cheaper than round-up and it works.

There are two supermarkets near me that consistently have better quality produce than any farmer’s market. Cheaper, too.

This “green” thing is for folks without a life. There isn’t a “greener” fuel than gasoline [according to Consumer Reports, ethanol puts 50% more emissions out the tailpipe per mile driven than gasoline].

And CO2? Well, CO2 has been rising — and the planet’s temperature has been falling for several years straight, falsifying the claim that CO2 causes global warming:

Two of my favorites are to have a backyard vegetable garden & keep your lawn mowed high so that it takes less water (or better yet, don’t have a lawn at all!)

I love to shop at thrift and consignment shops. I shop for the whole family there. We still buy stuff at retailers, namely Kohl’s, since with some of the sales you can get it cheaper there than second hand.

I love our farmer’s market. We have one on Saturday and Tuesday. The food is local and costs way less than at the store. Plus, if you go at the end of the day, they are looking to just get rid of stuff so they don’t have to take it back home. I’ll often ask “how much for that box of corn?” and it’ll be way less than normal.

Also buy in season in BULK if possible from your local farmer. Strawberry picking now & blueberry picking next month. We pick a lot and then freeze it to have in the winter. That way we are supporting local growers and going green (I think) by not buying some of our produce in the winter that has been shipped in from out of state or even across country.

Great tips. Most of the ways I’m trying to go green is by doing energy efficient upgrades to my house. It costs a little bit in the beginning but it saves your pocketbook and the environment in the long run.

I have been interested in a CSA since I first learned about it however I quickly found that most of the CSAs in my area have a wait list! So call now to get a spot for next year. It doesn’t ensure that you will be in the CSA for the next year. Nor does it obligate you to take the spot if you do get it the next year.
