Can you alter a dollar bill, like putting a picture of someone elses face on it for fun? Is that illegal or is it okay to do? I know you can stretch a penny but we didn't know if you could alter a real dollar bill. Please let me know.

In addition to the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco mints, there were also coins, namely the Morgan Silver Dollar, minted in Carson City, Nevada (mint mark CC) and New Orleans (mint mark O)

My other favorite one is Jefferson making the break with the British and going with a decimalsystem instead of a fractional one. it took the UK nearly 200 years to catch up.

Also that you could (at one time) tell the value of a bag of coins (without pennies and nickles) due to weight!

“In God We Trust” was first put on coins in the Civil War but didn’t make it onto all coins until 1955.

Okay, I give up...what coin was "In God We Trust" added to in 1955?

Except for the WWII non-nickel nickels, the Philadelphia Mint did not put a "P" on coins until 1968. It still does not put a "P" on pennies. There were no other Mints until 1838, so there was no need to put a "P" on coins since it was obvious where the coin was produced.

Historically, mint marks were used for quality control - if a coin did not meet standards - like if it didn't have enough silver or gold - the source could be identified and the responsible person dealt with.
