I find that to be completely true. We put a budget together years ago, and now...well, it is not quite so strict.

Although we examine it again each year to make any necessary changes ( having more kids usually calls for a bit more for diapers, etc ), after the initial viewing we don't go back to it too often.

After following a budget and watching it diligently for so long, we now just have the skills naturally to stay within our budget. I can ballpark where we need to be, how much I need to spend here and not spend there, etc.

Now, I usually only run our family numbers vs. our budget every 6 months, and we are usually under budget or right where we need to be.

I think after following a budget for a few years and disciplining yourself, it just becomes habit!

Everything in this articles is meant with good intentions but I've found that budgets, like diets - just don't work!

I'm more a fan of the David Bach automatic method.

Make it that the cash is taken out of your hands before you get the chance to spend it.

We are all children at heart and need to be spoon fed good pf practices!
