7 Tips to Supercharge Your Productivity

ProductivityMany of us recognize the importance of productivity. Getting more done can help us earn more money, as well as ensure that there is more time to do the things we really want to do.

If you are concerned about your productivity, and worried about how you can improve your performance, here are 7 tips that can help you supercharge your output:

  1. Identify Biggest Time Wasters — And Cut Them: The very first thing to do is identify your biggest time wasters. Look at how you use your time. Be brutally honest. If you waste too much time on social media, email, or Skype chats (this is my problem), cut back on those items.
  2. Work on One Thing at a Time: Multi-tasking just doesn’t work. Instead of trying to do several things at once, narrow your focus a bit. Work on one thing at a time. You’ll work better, and faster, and you can move on to the next item your list.
  3. Say No: Just having a lot on your plate doesn’t make you productive. Instead, consider the things that will really help you accomplish your goals. Focus on those things, and say no to other tasks. Saying no, and reducing the sheer number of things you have to do, can help you improve your performance in the areas that really matter.
  4. Take a Break: Sometimes, you need to recharge. Take a break for a few minutes. I like to take a short 10 minute break mid-morning to have a healthy snack. It helps me get set for the rest of the morning. I also like to take half an hour for lunch. A break can also include a vacation. If you feel as though you are burning out, a vacation can be just what you need to re-energize. This also includes sleep. You are more likely to be disciplined and focused when you’ve had adequate rest.
  5. Schedule Certain Tasks: Instead of answering emails when they arrive, consider setting aside time to accomplish certain tasks. I relegate all my emails to the end of the day. Rather than check every time something new shows up in my inbox, I wait until the end of the day, and then answer them all. I’m not interrupted, and everything gets done in its allotted time. Schedule certain tasks for certain times, and they won’t be nagging at you.
  6. Get Help for Mundane Tasks: My productivity has increased since I hired a virtual assistant to help out with some of more mundane tasks. The VA takes care of some of the things that I found tedious and time consuming, even though they are simple. Now, I have more time to focus on what’s really important for me, and less worry about the mundane time suckers.
  7. Minimize Distractions: When possible, get rid of distractions around you. Turn of audio notifications on email and other items. Choose a workspace that doesn’t offer distractions, or open you to distractions. Shut windows and browser tabs that aren’t actually helping you with your work.

There are a number of strategies you can employ to help you boost your productivity. What are your favorite tips?

Tune out distractions and get to work. Much more productive when I’m not listening to some loudmouth yammer on forever and getting annoyed.
