In the light of things...i dont want this to become a disagreement because its a delicate subject. Plus Jim gave for his family member that passed away and I dont want to get into politics on something sincere Jim created.

YES FIVECENTNICKEL.COM I am very serious.
You can save your statistics because i am not speaking on those terms. We are not talking about life expectancy. It doesn't take a rocket scientst to dwell or ponder the idea that they take alot of donations and keep asking. A smaller percentage is actually spent on OUR DONATIONS. Let's keep in mind that I lost 2 grandparents and donate my self and would never suggest anyone not to. You just have to be careful where it goes and the problem falls with alot of these "associations". I believe that its a very big cycle. America gets sick, they want to put you on drugs that eventually will kill you, and we keep donating. Dont you know that if there was a cure, big pharma, doctors, and the affiliates will be out of business...They pay each other to keep themselves in business
Contest me if you want to but we will never have a cure because gov. will never have it that way and if there ever was it will be kept a secret. Remember 50 yrs down road...more money is poured.
But hey what do i know.

Fengshui, are you serious? 100 years ago people weren't living to be old enough to die of cancer. LIfe expectancy for white males born in 1890 (who would thus be 'coming of age' 100 years ago) was just 42.5 years. For females it was about 2 years better, and for other races it was much, much worse.

Well, I don't want to sound insensitive.
Just know that I lost both of my grandparents to Cancer.
Cancer is a deadly disease and I don't think it will ever cease. WHY?
Well, look at what we consume on a regular bases. Cancer is a very recnt thing. People weren't dying left and right 100 years ago.
While I try to support large organizations it really bothers me because no matter how much money we give they will never produce a cure. For large donations we have alot of pharma companies to thank.
I don't want to suggest to anyone to not give but be very careful. 50 yrs later, BILLIONS OF DOLLARS LATER, they will still have their hand out.

Jordan --

According to Charity Navigator, the ACS spends almost 70% on program expenses. Unfortunately, the spend 8% on administrative costs and 22% on fundraising. As such, they're rated 2 out of 4 stars.

I commend what Jim is doing here (giving to charity) but I'd suggest the Lance Armstrong Foundation for future cancer-related efforts (disclaimer: this is my cancer charity of choice.) They get 3 of 4 stars. FYI, the National Cancer Coalition gets 4 of 4 stars, but I'm not sure what they do.

Do you know how they spend their money? Like, what percentage actually goes to research/works vs admin fees?

American Cancer Society Charity Drive

While there’s no such thing as a bad time to donate to charity, this time of year seems to bring out the best in people. Perhaps it’s the holidays, or maybe it’s the fact that the end of the year is looming, and people are starting to...
