This plan is good if you are unemployed, and have no plans on working. What about the people who work hard for there money and have to give it to people who want handouts. What happened to helping the middle class?

I feel that our leaders, especially Pres Obama need to explain HOW each category STIMULATES. How does more money for clean water, for instance, CREATE, or provide jobs!!! I thought that was our number one concern! In addition, I see nothing to help the average person having trouble paying their home loans such as lower mortgage rates.

@thomas: The “Fraud” you speak of was when $1 trillion+ went straight toward lining the wallets of the wealthiest people in the country with no outcry from the public (i.e. TARP). Now when money is actually going toward helping the average person, it’s a “fraud”?! This bill not only gives more money to the poor and needy(who are GUARANTEED to spend it), but it also creates things of real VALUE in this country. We should have been up in arms over TARP and yet we’re fighting over this bill. I just don’t get it.

Throw even more money at the problem, that’s the solution! I am sure it will work this time….

The solution, to reply to Jared’s post, is to let things shake out, stop throwing money into the system, stop “soaking the rich”, etc. The money injections in the past are the largest part of our problem. We will have to face the results sometime. It will be nasty whenever, but the sooner we get through it, the sooner we will all be better off.

I find it refreshing that someone in our government has actually laid out a plan in front of us instead of using broad generalizations like “I know how to fix this” and then not being able to explain how. This plan is looking to attack the root cause of the problems first, then the symptoms. I think of it this way: If your fingernail grows into your skin and causes an infection, antibiotics won’t kill it until the nail is removed. You can throw all the money you want at this problem but nothing will change until our infrastructure changes.

Thanks for the summary but I really wonder what they mean when they say:
$19 billion for clean water, flood control, and environmental restoration investments;
-is this mean no more fluoride?

$32 billion to transform the nation’s energy transmission, distribution, and production systems by allowing for a smarter and better grid and focusing investment in renewable technology.
-what are these smarter and better grids?

$20 billion for health information technology to prevent medical mistakes, provide better care to patients and introduce cost-saving efficiencies.
-how about you provide better education and stop selling so much dangerous drugs to the public?

Good summary. It’s unfortunate that there’s so much for highway and relatively little for public transit and other rail infrastructure. There was a chance to make a true difference in our country’s future.

Thanks for the summary. I like the idea behind most of the plan. I’m big into renewable energy and increasing science and technology spending. I was hoping to see how all of this was going to be paid for though.
