Another Free $50 from Sharebuilder

I plucked another code from my list of Sharebuilder promotion codes today and signed up for my second account at Sharebuilder. I’ve discovered that the codes are not restricted to new account sign ups so you can sign up multiple times with different codes to get the free money (I know only because I just did it).

Signing up for the second time was even easier than the first time since they already have your information. The only new information you’ll have to provide is banking ABA and account numbers if you plan on funding the new account with a bank account.

My list of promotional codes has 8 different codes on the page worth $290 plus a subscription to Money magazine. Since you’ll need to make one trade, that’s minus $40 in transaction fees if you don’t opt in to the trial subscription and $0 if you do. (The fees are $4 per schedule buy, $16 to sell but you won’t be selling for 40 years!)

Folks are having problems reaching the other page so I’ve reproduced the list of codes:

Sharebuilder
Promotion Code
Bonus Amounts
30UCLA $30 new!
GAS $30 new!
GROCERIES $30 new!
MOVIES $30 new!
ACCTBONUS $30 new!
YM50 $50
STUDENT50 $50
GIFT50 $50
MYPOINTS25 $25

Apply for a Sharebuilder account! (Thank you for using this link!)

The “promo codes” link does not appear to be functioning.

Ryan - What browser are you using? I’ve been able to follow both links above in IE and Firefox, could you try again?

Code link does not work for me either. I am using IE6.

code link doesn’t work for me in firefox 1.5.0.6 I keep getting an error about firefox not redirecting properly.
“Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.”
I’ve tried it in IE7 B2 but it just sits there and tries to load it without actually getting anywhere.

Most of the codes do show up in the related posts section of this post however.

If you copy and paste the URL, does it work?

And is it the link to sharebuilder or the internal site link?

I tried copying and pasting the url but that did the same thing. The sharebuilder link seems to work just fine, it’s the internal one to the list of codes that is the problem.

I’m using latest version of Firefox as well.

Anyway, thanks for posting codes!

Can you folks who have signed up using promo before verify that the bonus was indeed rewarded? If so, I will add a second account tomorrow. I opened one a few months back and invested in XMSR (XM Satellite Radio). I’m hoping there’s one in every car by 2030!!

I’ve done it twice and I can confirm that both bonuses were awarded though if you’re concerned, just wait until the first one is awarded before signing up for the second. Most of these codes have been active for this entire calendar year so another two weeks probably won’t see any of them expiring.

Strangely enough I can’t seem to reproduce the problems you guys are having…

I already used a Entertainment coupon to open my account. To use additional codes, do you just go to Accounts, then click on promotions?

Lee: I just clicked on the application link above as if I never had an account and where it says “Do you have a ShareBuilder Account?” I selected Yes. From there it asked for me to login with my credentials and everything seemed to be pre-populated (except bank information).

I don’t think clicking on promotions while you are logged in will work because you have to choose which account to apply it too and these codes are for new accounts only.

THANKS!

If you are successful using the codes does this mean you have 8 separate accounts? If so can you consolidate them at a later date?

Yes, you’ll have 8 separate accounts and I’ve read that all you have to do is call in to consolidate them.

I read your previous article on how can apply for the promo, and then withdraw your initial contribution after getting your bonus. Do you know if any taxes apply to withdrawing the initial amount?

oh yeah, clicking on the Promotions like when you are logged in works as well!

I would like to hear from anyone who opened multiple accounts and was able to have them consolidated.

Add to your current list of codes SHAREBUILD50

Thanks TT!

I have used the following five (5) ShareBuilder promotion codes since August 03, 2006 and am already in receipt of the funds for the first three promo codes. The codes and the order in the which I submitted them are: 1) HH50LOGIN for $50 (received) 2) Entertain50 for $50 (received) 3) SBGIFT30 for $30 (received) 4) IPLANGIFT for $50 (code accepted but funds not yet received) 5) ShareBuild50 for $50 (code accepted but funds not yet received). ShareBuilder has been great! The first three (3) promotions have all been credited to my accounts on either the 28th or 29th day following the first transaction for each respective account and promo code.

desertrose…

did you open these accounts under multiple types [ie. joint, individual]?

Is there something to be said with this deal to not do 18-accounts, but try to keep it low with 5-6?

My 5 new accounts will be funded this week and next Tuesady will be my first transaction so here is the question desertrose….did you stagger the first transaction, like say a couple weeks or so inbetween OR did you just wing it and do all 5-transactions at once?

Rook,

They were staggered and all individual accounts. A few only days apart, the others by a few weeks over the course of approx. 6 weeks. I’ve been told that it draws less attention to the number of promotions to do it this way. I’ve also been told that I should combine the accounts after I’m in receipt of the first 5-6 promotion rewards. Therefore, I don’t plan to open any further accounts until I’ve received the funds for the remaining two accounts/promotions. At that time I’ll consolidate them into one account and then proceed with opening additional accounts to utilize promotions I’ve not yet taken advantage of. Under no circumstance should you attempt to utilize a promotion twice. Not only will ShareBuilder NOT allow you to do it, but they’ve been know to cease access to all additional promotions when you attempt to utilize a promotion more than once. I know of individuals who have benefited by more than a dozen promotions using this strategy. I plan to utilize this strategy until either ShareBuilder ceases offering new promotions or until they stop me from taking advantage of their promotions. I’ve already utilized promotions valued at $230 and have codes for 8 additional promotions valued at $285. That’s $515 free money! (less of course the $4 fees UNLESS you take advantage of the 30-day free Advantage trial offer). I’ve invested nominal amounts. All accounts were initially opened with less than $25 although I’ve made additional investments in three of my five accounts. Hope this information helps you. Happy Investing! DesertRose

great, thanks Desertrose…Much appreciated…

I will be following in your footsteps about the staggering…I might do one a week just to be really safe…

Rook - I don’t think any of these will expire as you wait each week, many of them have been active for many months.

Jim, Thanks for providing this information. I had heard about you through friends of mine who directed me here and to another website you frequent. Your information is awesome! Since I don’t have a beefy income, any and all informational aids and resources which aid and improve my investment/savings knowledge, strategy and potential are greatly appreciated! Happy Investing! DesertRose

desertrose - Thanks for the compliment! If you ever have any questions, shoot me an email. I love email, haha.

Also, you might find this post about how to “invest” with $100 useful too…

Once you purchase a stock they will send you an email notifying you that you completed the terms of the promotion and that they’ll credit your account within a week or two.

Thanks, Jim!

Last week received funds for the 4th promotion code, IPLANGIFT, in the amount of $50. Awaiting receipt of the 5th promotion code, SHAREBUILD50, in the amount of $50. At that time I’ll consolidate the five accounts and begin taking advantage of the remaining promotions.
Good luck to all of you!
Kudo’s to ShareBuilder for the promotions and to
Jim for educating all of us.

If you used the link above to open the accounts, I should be the one doing the thanking. So, thank you! (hopefully!)

Well just a quick update…

I funded 5 accounts last week and set up the next 4 Tuesdays to perform my purchases that will cost $4/each…I did codes entertain, hh50login, sharebuild50, sharebuild25 and campus50…

So yesterday I began with two trades in two seperate accounts and I recieved confirmations that I should expect $50 and $25 to be sent to my accounts in 4-6 weeks…I figured I would be a dare-devil and push my luck to see if it worked my scheduling two trades on the same day, but it worked….I dont see any problems next week when I buy GLD with only one account and the following weeks as well when I perform only one trade…

This whole set up time took about 40 minutes and once the money was transfered to sharebuilder, I set up the trades and immediately printed out 5 transfer applications so as soon as I recieve the gifts, I can transfer them into my big sharebuilder account…

All in all, I chose the 5 rewards that totaled $175 in cash and a $50 Barnes and Noble card…and the process will have taken me a simple 40 minutes total!

After this works and I am back to a single account, I will do the next handful…I think if you do a handful at a time, it will work…There is still $140 on the table and some free books…All in all, I do see this working WITH TIME and patience to make us all $275 after the $40 in trade fees…

Freeguide30 is expired…all the other codes went through waiting on confirmation email…thanks!

So far I’ve used three promo codes (ENTERTAIN50, HH50LOGIN and CAMPUS50) and have received the cash bonuses for the first two. I expect to receive the B&N gift card for the third one sometime in the next week or so.

Today, I tried a fourth code (SHAREBUILD50) and got stuck during the account-opening process. When I got to the page where I select my pricing plan (Standard TRIAL), I was not able to select the method of payment — both the Checking Account and Credit Card options were “grayed out.”

I canceled out of the account signup process, but apparently the account was opened with the Basic pricing, because when I logged in I saw that I now had four accounts. I did get e-mails confirming both the account opening and the promo code acceptance.

On my fourth (newest account) I noticed the following message:

“It has been noted that you have opened multiple accounts, with identical registration information. We have restricted from activity all but the first of such identical accounts. Future identical accounts will be likewise restricted.”

I just submitted the forms to have my other accounts consolidated into the first account I opened.

It will really suck if I can’t take advantage of any more of these promo codes. I’m interested in hearing if anyone has successfully used a promo code on an existing (i.e., not new) account. I’d be willing to pay the $4 trade fee for more bonuses, though it’s not as nice as getting them free with the Standard TRIAL offer.

Curtis.

Curtis,
I’m not sure what happened with your fourth attempt to utilize a promotion code. Perhaps ShareBuilder has recently imposed stricter limitations on the use of promotion codes.
I received my 5th promotion bonus yesterday, however I haven’t opened any new accounts since October 3rd. The first four accounts have been consolidated and the fifth will be consolidated tomorrow. However, although I’ve submitted the appropriate paperwork to close the accounts after consolidating (transferring all assets to one account) all accounts have remained opened although obviously three of them now have a zero balance. After the fifth account is consolidated with the first four tomorrow, I’ll call and request that they close all accounts with a ZERO balance. When that happens, I’ll attempt to utilize some of the remaining promotions. GOOD LUCK!

I used HH50LOGIN last week and I will be getting my $50 in 3-4 weeks.

I am wondering if there is a certain amount of money you have to put in. also, how do you set up automatic transfer to buy ONE stock? It keeps asking me to put in monthly contributions of 50.00, ( I used the portfolio risk assessment tools). I am a little iffy, and I can’t figure out how to make the trades in the first place without sacrificing your 50$.

damned that this doesn’t work abroad.
I’m from Belgium so this stuff doenst work here, anyone has suggestions for international moneychances?

regards peepz!
Gianni

I just tried the “ENTERTAIN50″ promotion code and received an error message that “this promotion code was not intended for use at the ShareBuilder site.”

Anyone else used this code recently?

P.S. I love your site, Jim. There’s just a wealth (ha! — wealth!) of great information. Keep up the good work!

I used GIFT50 today and it worked. Great sit. Thanks, Jim

Hey Geri,
It seems that some paperwork needs to be sent in for completing the GIFT50 promotion. Do you have that with you?

Thanks!

The TVS50 promotion code didn’t work for me (”code can’t be found”).

Where do you enter the promo code? I clicked the link above and signed up for an account, but at no point during the sign-up did it prompt me for the code.

At the last stage of the signup, you are given an opportunity to edit your information. If you go back to edit the information in the Acccount Type, there is a promotion code field at the bottom.

Btw, the following codes also didn’t work for me:

SMFALL50 (”The Promotion Code you entered has expired. The Promotion Code you entered is not intended for use on the sharebuilder ShareBuilder site.”)

SMEGIF06 (”The Promotion Code you entered cannot be found.”)

After opening my 4th account and placing a trade order (which hadn’t been processed yet), I got the dreaded message:

“It has been noted that you have opened multiple accounts, with identical registration information. We have restricted from activity all but the first of such identical accounts. Future identical accounts will be likewise restricted.”

As might be expected from this message, I am not able to do anything with this 4th account now. However, there are no such messages and apparently no restrictions on activity for the first 3 accounts. I hope this means that I will still be getting the $50 promotion bonuses for these accounts.

Thanks for the help but I already contacted customer service and they applied the promotion code to the account.

This is what I posed in another page about the same subject.

I wanted to tell you my story of signing up for sharebuilder. I had a hard time finding where to put the damn promo code so I emailed customer service. After I told them what code I needed to use they gave me this response.

“I have added this promotion code to yoru account for you. If you need further assistance, please reply to this email. You also have the option to call or email Customer Care by clicking Contact Us at the bottom of the ShareBuilder home page”

How awesome is that! I first found the promo code enter page and tried a few to make sure the promo code worked.

Try calling customer service and tell them you got a promotion for an existing account. If they give you a hard time tell them you will close your account.

I’m still waiting for my $50 to drop. I had to start an automatic savings plan and they give it to me after the first one goes through. After it goes through I will sell it take my money out and then wait a a month or two and do it again.

The ENTERTAIN50 and STBANK07 have expired, but GIFT50 worked today.

Heres a question: Do you buy under auto, options or under real time trade?

you didnt mention gift50 requires mailing in a gift certificate -.-;

[...] can continue to grow the seed by using a trick I learned on Blueprint for Financial Prosperity (great blog, by the way). I plan to sign up about eight different times with Sharebuilder and take [...]

I signed up for the promo GIFT50. However I was told that you may have to do more to get the $50. Please can someone share more light on this.

Yea, I used the GIFT50 code and didn’t receive my $50. I decided to call up ShareBuilder and find out what the deal was. With that specific promotion code you need to have a specific gift certificate in hand that you mail them. DO NOT use this code if you do not have the certificate.

GIFT50??? I need to know what gift certificate and what process to follow.
