Another Stimulus Check? Perhaps.

Another Economic Stimulus Check?Update: Here’s the latest on the second stimulus package.

When Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama mentioned a second stimulus check in a speech in early June, I didn’t think that it would actually happen. Presidential nominees do a lot of talking in the months leading up to November and I chalked the idea of another stimulus check as a short term as just that – talk.

Well, turns out that the Democrats, led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, want another stimulus check. As expected, the Republicans are firing back, President Bush is asking that we “wait for the stimulus package to fully kick in,” and it’s simply business as usual in Washington.

I have mixed feelings about yet another stimulus check. On one hand, I understand that there are many families on the boundaries getting squeezed by soaring fuel and food prices. On the other, I don’t think the “stimulus package” is really stimulus at all and I don’t really think a stimulus package is the solution to our economic woes. Overall, I think it’s just political maneuvering and time that would be better spent on more important issues like education, medicare care, or climate change.

At this point, it’s merely political fodder and we shouldn’t expect another stimulus check, just that there have been discussions of one. As anyone who has watched Congress work can attest to, there are plenty of discussions in Washington that lead nowhere.

I am a single parent of 3 month old twins and talk about hard times just think double the diapers double the formula its not easy and I’m a full time student studying criminal justice with a part time job I also made a not so good choice on the man that fathered my children so I don’t get any help from him i think a second stimulus check would do most of us good if used correctly people should be able to help themselves out of whatever situation they may be in as long as their situation wasn’t out of control in the first place

What can I say — as a hard working 27 year old woman going through the pains! and yes it hurts! My husband just lost his job in June. The company actually closed in June!!! and ever since he is lucky to get 1 interview a month — with the other thousands applicants for the same job! Hello People!!!!!!!!! Does anyone understand???????——— $50- $100- $20 anything helps right now— when you are hoping to be invited over to dinner so you have something to give you strength to keep going!!!!!!!! I hoope God continues to Bless the ones that have but can we share the Love! xxx Blessed but still alittle stressed Sara

  3. Michelle says:

Sara, God does bless HIS people. the people who believe in HIM. INCLUDING ME AND MY HUSBAND. A stimulus check would help. I have one question for the people in the office. quit fooling around! ARE WE GOING TO GET ANOTHER STIMULUS–OR– NOT!!!!!!!! The economy is hurting out there, and we the people can help it,and also help us… MICHELLE

  4. workaholic says:

I think the check would help out alot. I was born in the world without nothing and I will leave the world without nothing. It kills me how people put each other down. We need to help each other instead of degrading each other. I am a parent of three kids ages 10 months, eight, and ten. I been living on my own since i was 16. I never beg for anything cause i knew if i wanted it i had to work for it. I worked two jobs, finished high school, and went to college where i received a two year degree. It is hard being a single parent but i glad I taught my kids that as long as we have a roof over our heads, clothes on our back, and food on the table we can survive. I am twenty six years old and Ipray everyday that things will get better. As long as we trust everything will be o.k. I dont make but 7.50 an hour, work 30 to 35 hours a week, but still manage to take care of my kids, pay my bills, keep gas in the car to get back and forth to work, and keep my kids in the best clothes and shoes. All I have to say is thank god for everything he is doing for me.

    • V says:

Stay strong and you are showing your kids what working and what matters is all about.

  5. cheryl says:

WELL LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH A SECOND STIMULUS CHECK WOULD HELP MY FAMILY. A GRRRRREEEEAAATTT DEAL SO ANY ONE WHO DONT THINK THEY NEED THAT EXTRA MONEY IM SURE YOU CAN FIND IT IN YOUR GENEROUS HEARTS TO GO DOOR TO DOOR AND GIVE AWAY YOUR MONEY HOPE IM ON THAT STREET CAUSE I SURE WILL HAVE MY HAND WAITING.

  7. dj says:

Way to go Cheryl. I bet your ass is up bright and early at the State offices too, with your fucking hand out! Go have another baby

    • V says:

Bush was fine for those who voted for him for another term now that white americans are affected it’s now time for a change give me a break. dj you have no compassion and no damn sense for people , not making $100,000 a year a stimulus is needed. For ALL who are affected by the current state think how your attiude was before this. I am affected also but was always God loving and greatful and still am. Now some of you will think twice when you see folk in line with food stamps and counting pennies. Happy as Hell to see Bush get on that damn plane Tuesday lol.

  8. Karen says:

dj, your probably right… Read what I wrote on Sept. 25th at 11:04am, and 2:36 PM, and Oct. 24th at 11:16 AM.

  9. Herman says:

Welcome to life and reality! life is im hungry and no food and no job. my swimming pool has a crack in it and it will not hold water and THAT IS REALITY!! and my bmw convertible has slick tires. i need a stimulus check now AND THATS REALITY!!!!

    • barbinid says:

LOL, quick I think I broke a nail – someone PAY ME!!- never mind that my children are starving and I cant pay the heat and water bill, I NEED $30 to get my nails done NOW. Oh yea, and unless things have changed, did you know that you can go into Albertsons grocery store (the ones that have Starbucks coffee centers) and put a $4 to $6 cup of espresso “what ever” on your food stamps card that the government says is for FOOD. You cant buy toilet paper or diapers for your child with this card but you can buy fancy coffee…NO I havent done so, but I watched a past “friend” do so, and then turn around and not be able to pay for her child care because she doesnt know where her government $$ went that were suppose to be “helping” get her out of “debt”. I tried getting on food stamps once…we are a one income family – we cut a lot of corners so that I can be home to keep an eye on what my kids are doing…we were denied food assistance because we were $100 over the poverty limit…guess who is growing a garden this summer to help keep grocery costs down, guess whos kids dress in second hand cloths – as well as their parents – guess who doesnt drive a brand new car, but feels lucky to have one that we can drive…can we use a stimulus check SURE. Will we have a hissy fit if we dont get one? NO. Why? Ya dont miss what you never had, its everyone else telling you what they think you should have. Mostly because they have it…Our family feels like we are being “treated” if we get to go to a hamburger joint once or twice a month and order off the value menu…oh yea and we order a large drink and (are you ready for this)? we SHARE it. Pretty hard to get four people to agree on one kind of drink…LOL wait til my kids grow up and find out there is life beyond the $1 menu…oh wait maybe by then the government will pay that for them too…

      • Jeff says:

Perhaps if you would not be a stay at home parent and get a career you wouldn’t think that McDonalds is a treat?!?!?! Trust me I see the Govt. wasting tons of money especially that money spent on a convict’s healthcare. Why should we pay for a CONVICT to have any health care? If they die they save us money in the cost associated with keeping them locked up! Just my opinion.

  10. Travis says:

We have alot of “American” who are all about gimme gimme… its amazing, if you relly think about it. Our grand parents and great grandparents and great great grandparents had it harder still and yet they survived the great depression by paying cash for what they needed… notice the word NEEDED and not “wanted” If we all lived in the means we are paid. We as all americans would have a much better enconimy.

Earlier some one put this in, I totally agree.

Try reading the book “Financial Peace” by Dave Ramesy… he is a very conservative financial advisor who lays out step by step the process of getting ones finances under control.

    http://www.daveramsey.com/

Im 31 and my wife and 2 children, we have paid off almost $15,000.00 in 3 years because we lived by paying cash ONLY and no more of this gimmie crap. I work 2 full time jobs to make it happen. Yes, I know I will hit flack from the “Single moms and dads” However, Dave has Plans for you as well. Read the book. If no read, you can not give me real flack. Just like if you do not vote, you can NOT complain on the presidency.

  11. StevesaMORON!! says:

I just happened to be looking at some of these comments and noticed Steve’s BS. “And I also had to work though college” And, you are talking about someone else’s grammar?? Do spell check before you critize someone else, MORON!!! And, there should have been a comma after “AND”

    • Anonymous says:

      . . . It’s spelled criticize? Good call.

      • sassy says:

Anonymous, I bet you had to look that word up to spell it correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not what we’re here for anyway!

  12. StevesaMORON!! says:

Melito, you have FAR too much to say! Why are we even debating this? It’s not a hand-out. It is OUR money. So, I would gladly take a check from the US treasury department for some of MY own hard earned money BACK!!

    • amber says:

well stevesamoron the name seems to fit you perfectly here because as i recall the last “stimulus check ” you got didnt come from your hard earned money, it was borrowed from China.

  13. StevesaMORON!! says:

Steve, being the harvard scholar that you are, you should know that “gettng” is not a word. Ha Ha! You’re a fake, buddy! And, that “gimme attitude” that you speak? I also have it! It’s mine, jerk off! Take your head out of your ass! How’s that spelling for ya?

  14. Jon says:

    Harvard needs to be capitalized.

  15. SHANTIA EVANS says:

THE EXTRA MONEY WOULD BE SUCH A BIG HELP!!!!!!!!

  16. Heidi Hastings says:

Well, I don’t know about everyone else, but as many times as I’ve been denied or given a hard time about getting a credit card, I feel if these big companies, these big businesses, get a hand, we should too. If you don’t want yours, donate it to a deserving family, like mine. We’ll take it. Citibank and those large companies that have given small people like us such a hard time in getting credit have no problem asking for us to help them out. If it were brought to a vote, I wonder how many people would have just rather passed that same money around to the people who actually spend it. And faithfully, loyally and with glee spent it to stimulate their own households and their local economy. I would have a better car, kids would have better wardrobe, I would still have a job. All of those billions of dollars may have been better spent if we had any say in it. I’m not a scholar, but that just makes sense to me. And here we are hoping and praying that after we stimulate the economy during this holiday season, as we always do, we’re praying we get some little crumb that will only prove to pay a portion of my rent, or electric, but not both!!!

  17. Michelle says:

WE WANT ANOTHER CHECK. WE WANT ANOTHER CHECK. WE WANT ANOTHER CHECK!!!!!!!!!! :)

  18. Courtney says:

I think that just because you fucking republicans got enough money to shit on a golden toilet, while we struggle to buy food for our families, and gas to go plces we need to go, so 300 dollars sounds like a million!!

    • sarah says:

COURTNEY, ITS NOT THE REPUBLICANS , WE ALL UNDERSTAND STRUGGLING, READ THE FINE PRINTS SWEETIE, THE MONEY IS COMING FROM THE TAXES FROM THE OIL COMPANY WHO IN TURN WILL JUST RAISE THE PRICE ON GAS NOT JUST FOR A MONTH BUT FOREVER DO YOU REALIZE HOW FAST A 1000 DOLLARS GOES WHEN GAS IS ALMOST 4.00 A GALLON

    • V says:

      THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. ashley says:

well well well……FOR ALL OF YOU Who DONT THINK WE SHOULD GET ANOTHER CHECK. You are most likely one of the few people who actually have a job where you get paid to sit around and not do anything or you probably had a great start from mom/dad back in the day or whenever you ventured out in the real world. Let me tell you something. I am a young woman and i live on my own w/ my fiance. I LOST MY JOB b/c they didnt have anymore work. I have applied at several places and i am a very smart person with plenty of office experience. for the past 3 months, we have struggled more than anything. we hardly have enough food to last us. barely have gas. and the bills stay behind. Now, it is not my fault that the government if messing up everything and making us pay for there mistakes by raising the cost of everything. If you owned a resturant and you “misplaced” $5,000 or so, would you raise the cost of food for your customers????? If you would, then you are an inconsiderate asshole and i hope you get screwed over one day. The government needs to help americans and if not, the least they could do is lower some damn prices.

  20. Michelle says:

ashly when you had a job why did you not pay your bills off? when you were working why did you not have an emergency fund set aside? it is always people like you that are always looking for a bell out. i suggest that when you get a job that you pay your bills off and set aside an emergency fund. that way you want have to rely on a hand out from anyone. sence you say your so smart. Mcdonald is always hiring..

    • BurkesRUs says:

Wow…From the looks of your reply Michelle, you have life by the balls hmm? You have money set aside for a rainy day? Or do you just have a job that you don’t not have to worry about losing? Seems to me that Ashley is not looking for a handout or a “bell” out as you put it so eloquently. (By the way, it’s “bail” out) As far as paying off bills, who in the round world can actually do that? Do you have some special relationship with the light company in your area where they allow you to pay up front for the year? Or the cable company? Water? Phone? Are you a special customer at the gas station? Grocery store? Her fiance is apparently working and she is looking. I don’t think she was referring to credit card bills or frivolous bills. They struggle just like most American’s do. Why bash them? I have to assume that because you are so self righteous, you have a really great job somewhere, however, it must not involve spelling.

      • Michelle says:

Lets just put it this way. When it comes to finances i know what i am doing. My vehicles are paid for, house is paid for, land is paid for, MMMM- dont have cable that is monthly cost. Just have power, phone, ins.,and money set aside just in case for emergency, but other than that i thnk im doing pretty good.I HAVE TO TELL YOU ITS ALL IN THE WAY YOU HANDLE IT ALL. ANY MORE ?’S OR ANSWERS!!!!- BURKESRUS.

        • Hannah says:

And in a perfect world no one ever gets sick or needs to go to the doctor, the kids never need braces because their teeth are shiny and perfect, nothing ever goes wrong with the car that you have paid off and you never have to repair anything at your house. I live in the real world I could use the check even if it’s to put back for my kids college fund, which they wouldn’t need in a perfect world.

      • barbinid says:

YOU and others have CABLE?…wow. LoL I am hoping to plant a money tree in my garden this spring…if it works out I plan on sharing the seeds with others like me…In my ideal dream…I own the light co. the gas co. the water co. the phone co. the rail road, etc. and when I pass “GO” I get an extra $200.00 is that right? OH wait that is a game isnt it? My bad…

        • Michelle says:

That goes to show you how stupid you are!!! No. your not playing a game. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFE DUMB ASS!!!!!! You just got to handle your finances properly plan a head of time!!!!!!! You never know what could happen!!!!!

          • jWEBSTER says:

You know, you are right michelle. It is all in how you manage your money, but when you have children it’s hard to save enough money to cover the bills from month to month. The reality is everybody doesn’t make 2 or 3 thousand dollars a month and therefore can’t afford to pay off their house or car. They’re lucky if they can afford to buy toilet paper to wipe their ass with much less save any money. I glad you have money saved and that is a good thing to do when you can, but sweetie not everyone can.

  21. Angie says:

I am unsure whether or not another stimulus check is the answer to our economic problems or not. That being said, if I were to receive a check I would not send it back. My family can use the extra money at the moment. We have debts, just like everyone else. Small debts compared to some, I would say. I would mostly just like it for Christmas. My kids have always had what they need and we do our best to keep up with the bills. I am in childcare, which isn’t a very lucrative business, but I love being able to stay home and take care of my kids and still make a little money on the side. We are doing okay, and soon we will be doing even better. I guess what I am trying to say is…if we get another check, great! If not, my life will still go on and my family and I will be just fine. I know there are some people posting on here that say that they don’t need it or want it, and that’s fine. I don’t know the circumstances of everyone here but you are all entitled to your own opinions. I don’t understand those of you that choose to make hurtful comments about others because the truth is you don’t know who they are and you don’t know their circumstances. This is about whether or not we will be getting another stimulus check not about taking hurtful jabs at fellow americans. I think it is going to take more than just money to fix what is wrong with the economy.

  22. BrokeButHappy says:

It”s amazing how some people use this website to “down” one another. Some people really need the money and some people do not. Name calling and ignorant comments are childish. If you dont have anything positive to say, don’t post your ridiculous comments at all! To all of the hard workers that really need the money, keep it up!

  23. Michelle says:

IT IS FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!!!! By the way to our fellow americans.Obama’s whole name is BARACK (HUSSEIN) OBAMA!!!! What is that supposed to tell you. If that doesn’t tell you anything YOU ARE STUPID!!!!!! If you americans do not beleive me look up under BARACK OBAMA’S BIRTH CERTIFICATE WEB SITE, and read what it all says about him….. YOUR CHOISE!!!!!!!

  24. Dudeman says:

“Obama’s whole name is BARACK (HUSSEIN) OBAMA!!!! What is that supposed to tell you. If that doesn’t tell you anything YOU ARE STUPID!!!!!!”

What exactly is that supposed to tell me? That he has an odd name? He has a non-European name?

Are you implying that he is Muslim? or foreign? or a terrorist?

    I must be stupid.

  25. Michelle says:

    ALL 3.

    • flip says:

I guess you must be a republican michelle, i for one dobnt really give a flying rats ass what obama is or is not he has a plan to help this country out, and btw i dont recall anyone complainging when bushy spent 700 bilion dollars to bail out the banks, but god for bid a bi-racial american gets into the big office and tries to fix the mess that republicans caused, i support him 100% and if the rest of you fucktards dont then the borders are open leave.

      • REGISTERED REPUBLICAN says:

I Agree Flip, Except…I’m A Republican! As for you Michelle I have a full Irish name, does that mean Im in the IRA bombing the fuck out of Ireland?…No. What are you implying? a name is something your given before you are even born. What if the name your parents gave you was “Douchebag”? should we all just assume that you are a douchebag? You sound like one with your racial profiling, but what the hell do I know?! I am a father of two, very happily married, have a management position at the company I work for, and my wife is in nursing.I Had Two Back Operations and couldnt work for several months. To make a long story short I LOST MY HOUSE!! try telling your kids they wont be able to see thier friends that much anymore because the bank is kicking your ass to the curb. My wife and I are hard working people that never even ask for help if we need it, but with the rising costs of everything…We Could use that money! Im not gonna lie though, I will be the first to tell you, I wouldnt help stimulate the economy, I would save the hell out of it. If this crisis wasnt happening to most of the country, then Id say theres a few lazy asses out there, but even the auto makers and banks are going under…Tell them to save more!!! By The Way I Voted for Barack Obama!!! I dont agree with everything he is doing, such as Gun laws, but I do believe he can help fix this mess.

        • REGISTERED REPUBLICAN says:

By The Way…They have dropped the price on the house by 11 thousand dollars and they still cant dump it off on anyone. Think they could have worked with us?! Fuck Em!!

  26. Karen says:

Anybody is better then Bush… Maybe the economy will be better once Bush is out of office. He is the one to blame why everyone is having it so hard. I am glad Obama won, because if it was McCain it would be Bush all over again….

  27. kayla says:

They need to send the poor people something, why keep giving the rich when the middle class and poor people are living from pay check to pay check and still not eough money to pay everybody that needs to be paid.Gas prices and food are going up really cant afford everything. Some people don’t even know how their kids will have a good christmas this year how everything is going. Life really could be better for the poor and middle class people if they would stop giving all the money to the rich and rich

    • sarah says:

WELL , PUT OUT THE MONEY YOUR GOING TO GET IF YOU DO CAUSE ALL THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IS THE GAS COMPANIES WILL BE TAXED WHICH IS WHERE THE MONEY IS SET TO COME FROM AND GUESS WHAT GAS WILL AGAIN BE 4.00 A GALLON AND HOW LONG WILL A 1000 BUCKS GO YOU GUYS NEED TO READ THE FINE

  28. V. Bradley says:

Right now none of us Tax paying Americans workin’ hard for a livin’ need an english class from steve. although, he might do really well with the illegal aliens takin’ so many benefits from people born here in the U. 29. TDF says:

Roner what are you talking about, the dollar menu at these places you mentioned are not even a dollar any more that’s how much the economy has changed. And Dudeman or should I say DoDoMan just because Obama’s middle name is Hussein what in the hell does that mean. I’ll tell you what it means, it means that is his middle name fool. As of January 20th he is going to be President. It is what it is so deal with it.

  30. Karen says:

I thought that I would pass this on to everyone… GO OBAMA!!!!!

… WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court has turned down an emergency appeal from a New Jersey man who says President-elect Barack Obama is ineligible to be president because he was a British subject at birth. The court did not comment on its order Monday rejecting the call by Leo Donofrio of East Brunswick, N.J., to intervene in the presidential election.

Donofrio says that since Obama had dual nationality at birth — his mother was American and his Kenyan father at the time was a British subject — he cannot possibly be a “natural born citizen,” one of the requirements the Constitution lists for eligibility to be president.

Donofrio also contends that two other candidates, Republican John McCain and Socialist Workers candidate Roger Calero, also are not natural-born citizens and thus ineligible to be president.

At least one other appeal over Obama’s citizenship remains at the court. Philip J. Berg of Lafayette Hill, Pa., argues that Obama was born in Kenya, not Hawaii as Obama says and Hawaii officials have confirmed.

Berg says Obama also may be a citizen of Indonesia, where he lived as a boy. Federal courts in Pennsylvania have dismissed Berg’s lawsuit. Federal courts in Ohio and Washington state have rejected similar lawsuits.

Allegations raised on the Internet say the birth certificate, showing that Obama was born in Hawaii on Aug. 4, 1961, is a fake.

But Hawaii Health Department Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino and the state’s registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, say they checked health department records and have determined there’s no doubt Obama was born in Hawaii.

The nonpartisan Web site Factcheck.org examined the original document and said it does have a raised seal and the usual evidence of a genuine document.

In addition, Factcheck.org reproduced an announcement of Obama’s birth, including his parents’ address in Honolulu, that was published in the Honolulu Advertiser on Aug. 13, 1961.

(This version CORRECTS that Hawaii officials, not secretary of state, confirmed Obama birth certificate.)

dmary., there are to many H’s in your Duhhh. you need to go sober up! It sounds like to me you had way to much alcahol. After you sober up you need to go do a lot more studying on OBAMA!!!! Then come back to this page., BUT YOU HAVE TO BE SOBER NOW!!!!!!

    • Monique says:

Alcahol???? And you dare to correct the spelling of a word like duhhh, that really isn’t a word?

  33. brit says:

when are we getting the second stimulus check i heard december and then i heard that we were getting it with are income tax return does any one really whats happening ?

  34. jj says:

We are not getting another one. The only ones who can get one, are the ones who did not get the first one (if they are eligible). Sorr, it seems Obama said what he had to, to get peoples vote. No where in his supposed “stimulus package” does it mention a check.

  35. ashley says:

i think anothing stimulus check is inorder. But when i say another check it needs to be something with some $$$ next to it. That 600 didnt do anything for me. If they are going to give us another check is should be atleast starting at 1500. Hell we are already in debt whats a little more. That first check was just a tease.

    • bunchee says:

I read on the internet Obama suggested 1000 per person

      • Michelle says:

        500 singles
        1000 couples
        IF they decide on it!!!!!!!

  36. Addie says:

I truly think another stimulus check is in order. Times are pretty hard right now the cost of living is just too exspensive. My tax dollars has been taken out faithfully every week and now that I need a help in hand , I think it is only fair the it is given. The United States is always on call for other countries be there for our own people. I say yes to it. The rebate is so small that it can only just help pay one bill but it is better than nothing. That’s bill paid with help. The political side to this is that there will be a big fight over this…………It’s just a few dollars to help everyone. So people stay on this we need to have this second stimulus check. Bless you all.

  37. Cosmo-Girl says:

Well first of all! I could only wish that we would get another stimulas check this year or even on our next income taxes. I believe that whatever amount that we get really helps out in a time of need. Yes I wouldn’t mind if it were alittle more next time but I am not being greedy. Even if we get just $600.00 more dollars, to me I believe that at least it is $600.00 more dollars that I have in my pocket that I didn’t have before. So does anyone really know if we are really getting another check or is it just rumors? Can someone please let us know. Thank You

    • jim says:

Unfortunately, President-elect Obama’s economic recovery plan doesn’t call for a stimulus check so I don’t think one will be coming.

      • flip says:

I dotn really care if there is another round of checks or not the law he just signed should help us blue collar americans just fine, and i dont know about ya’ll but an extra 13 bucks a week will help me out alot

  38. Michelle says:

It sounds like we might be getting a check, but we will be getting it when we file for income taxes. I think it is $1000.00 for couples and $500.00 for singles. I hope we do. It would help alot.

    • jim says:

Unfortunately we are not. Obama’s plan will invest in infrastructure like roads and bridges, not checks to individuals. History has shown that the stimulus checks, while helpful to the families who received them, didn’t actually stimulate the economy. I’m not saying I don’t want people to get a little help when they’re experiencing tough times, but the checks didn’t accomplish the overall goal.

      • Michelle says:

Your right it didn’t help the aconomy one bit. Obama is talking tax break, and if they go through with that it would help my husband and i, and it might help the rest of you americans household budgets i dont know, but i still dont see it helping the economy. Its going to take alot more and i mean ALOT MORE money and a whole lot more effort to get that overall goal done.

hi. im a 30 year mom and considered the “working poor”. i have a full time job of 11 years, barely…the are talking about layoffs and all of that stuff. banks and buisnesses are getting help from our government but hey if regular people dont have the money to go spend then it was a waste of time. the regular folk need some help for….bills, food, heat, gas, ya know some essentials!!!!!!!!!

  40. Trese says:

Do you know that when a bank borrows from a bank, they charge them one percent or less to pay it back, thats to give the bank thats borrowing a break so its easier to pay back, that what banks do. Now, would a bank give a person a break like that who is having financial problems? Just so its easier for them to live and pay the mortgage? No, they would not, same with these big companies who got bailout money from the government, they would never give anyone a break themselves, because they were on top, the little guy gets stepped on, and is living paycheck to paycheck, while these heads of these companies are living in mansions, and dont worry about where the next meal is coming from, or if there will be one. I think instead of bailing out these companies who are having problems with people paying, the government should split the money they are giving to these mortgage companies, with all of us taxpayers, it would average out to about 500,000 to each couple, instead of struggling to pay the mortage company, they can pay the home off, they can pay the car off, all the credit cards from banks, pay them off too, you see, the mortgage companies would benefit, they would have money comeing in all over the place, car loan places would benefit, they would also have money coming in too, and the banks would be happy, people would be paying things off, and they would be getting the money back in their pockets. A dream? yes it is, but just think how much that would help the economy, people would be spending again, alot, and where would the taxes and revenue go? BACK TO THE GOVERNMENTS BANK ACCOUNT, we would still have to pay taxes on it of course!!!!! A lot of people would benefit from that.

  41. struggling like everyone else says:

I completely agree with you but it seems like noone is concerned about the normal people who have mortgages and car loans and medical bills and living expenses.
I don’t understand why they can’t see how much better life would be in the united states for everyone if we were to “bail out” the normal person and stop helping out the ones who are worried about what $$$$ suit they will put on the next morning.

  42. Steven says:

I think another stimulus check would be great for the american people. After all it’s our money they have took from us hard working americans. They goverment will find any reason to raise our taxes, and take, and take, and take from the hard working struggling americans. While they sit back an what us work our self to death. I think the economy would have been better off if the goverment would have took that 300 billion dollars, and gave it to the peole. We could have paid our houses down or in some cases off. That would have helped the housing, and the banks. We could have paid our car notes off,and that would have helped the car business. With those paid off we’ve put money back in the housing, the car business, and the banks. That will free up the people to take care of their families more stess free, and to be able to put MORE money back into the economy. Instead they gave it to business that just wasted it,and want more.

  43. Steven says:

    I ment 700 billion dollars.

  44. Trese says:

    AMEN!!!

  45. john says:

well obama you got our vote and now it time you help with this second check and open them up and dont prolong like redneck bush did and i am tired of government complaining we are losing more money , weel i got good news , quit given away money to other country and start forus here in america , i dont care about other country and so obama get your as move and sign open and start mail this check , we all are tax payer money and it belong to us , dont wait for us to boost the ecomony , blame stock market oka !

  46. Crystal says:

It’s interesting that the Bush administration or someone along those lines spent over $400,000 just on new china wear. Hmmm….makes me wonder….

    • Michelle says:

It makes me wonder too. The economy is gone down, and all they are studying is how they are going to decorate a d___n table…….I mean come on. They need to be thinking about US here!!!!!!!!!!

  47. KD says:

They wont we are middle class income people that keep this country going paying taxes to keep the rich getting richer, poor getting foodstamps, and other assistance and the people in prison to be warm in winter cool in the summer and having three meals aday and t.v. to watch!
Also heard that we are going to have to claim that stimulus check on our income taxes? I haven’t started mine yet so I do not know for sure if that is true just something that was told to me!

  48. Latasha says:

I think a second stimuls check would be good thing. It would help us pay the things that we need to pay like bills that we may behind on or just diapers ,clothes for our children and many other things . Finding work these last sevearl months has been very diffacult. I have three children that im trying to provide for and it is very hard but I cant let them down. Have to stay strong. So yes it would help the people that need it and this day and time theirs probley alot of people that could use it. We could use any extra money that could be gotten.God bless.

  49. KD says:

Ok it cost how much to throw that big polictical bash yesterday? hundreds of millions of dollars!!!!!???!?!?!?!?! that is what you call big STUPID GOVERMENT!
ok now reading on yahoo that obama froze salaries..

    More from The Yahoo! Newsroom:
For the millions of jobless in America, the best that many can hope for are a few weeks of severance pay and a shrinking pool of state unemployment benefits.

In light of the nation’s current economic gloom, AP has learned that President Obama is freezing some White House salaries. About 100 aides who earn than $100,000 will have their pay frozen.

Ok no wonder we are in such bad shape if it cost all that for him to be sworn in and then the aides make 100,000.00???? goodness!

  50. John says:

I for one would like another stimulus check. But now I am not sure. Did I miss something. I thought we where not supposed to have to pay back the checks???

I went onto a tax calculator today to see what I would get back in taxes(aproximatly since it is an estimate. It asked if I got a stimulus and how much. I told it $300 and it said I was getting about $700 back. So out of curiousity I told it I got $700 for a stimulus check. It then said I was only getting $400 for taxes. So then I told it I didn’t get a stimulus check, and it said I was getting about $1,000 back.

If we do have to pay it back, then I don’t want another check. Because it might help when one gets the check, but then when you have to pay it back from your taxes, it could end up hurting you again.

  51. Karen says:

I found this on line and thought it might help with the many questions people have. It says it won’t hurt our taxes. So lets hope it doesn’t…

Economic Stimulus Payment Q&As: Offsets, Taxpayers Outside the U.S. and More

    Updated Aug. 5, 2008

Following are answers to questions regarding the economic stimulus payments. Scroll down the list for information on offsets, taxpayers residing outside the United States and other topics. Or choose one of the following categories:

    Eligibility
When Will I Get the Payment?
Did I Get the Right Amount?
    Amended Returns
    Change of Address
    Taxpayer Identification Numbers
    Direct Deposit
    Armed Forces
    Business
Offsets, Taxpayers Outside the U.S. and More
Offsets, Taxpayers Outside the U.S. and More

    Q. My stimulus check was lost or destroyed. How do I get a new one?

    A. Call the IRS toll-free at 800-829-0582 and, when asked for an extension, enter 726. Overseas taxpayers may call 215-516-2000 (not a toll-free number). If your stimulus check has not been cashed, we can normally provide a replacement within six to eight weeks. If your stimulus check has been cashed, the Financial Management Service will provide a claim package which includes a copy of the check. FMS will review the claim and the signature on the cancelled check before determining whether another refund can be issued.

    Q. I’m eligible for a payment but I still owe federal income tax from a prior year. Will my payment be reduced?

    A. Yes. For this purpose, the stimulus payment is treated like any other tax refund. This means that part or all of your payment can be used to pay past-due federal or state income taxes or non-tax federal debt such as student loans and child support.

    Q. How will I be notified if my stimulus payment was used to offset an outstanding debt?

    A. If this occurs, you will receive a letter explaining how the stimulus payment was applied.

    Q. I am filing a joint tax return with my spouse who has a past-due obligation. How can I ensure that I still get my share of our joint stimulus payment?

    A. In this situation, you are considered an injured spouse. To get your share of a joint income-tax refund, as well as your share of the stimulus payment, you can file Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation. You will get your share of these payments, and your spouse’s share will be applied to his or her past-due federal or state income taxes or non-tax federal debt such as student loans and child support. Your allocation request will be processed more quickly if you attach Form 8379 to your regular 2007 federal income tax return.

    Q. How will the IRS treat a stimulus payment when there is an innocent spouse involved?

    A. An innocent spouse determination for a 2007 income tax return would follow the filing of the return. In most instances, the stimulus payment will be issued before such a claim is filed and before a determination can be made.

    Q. My spouse and I have divorced and the stimulus payment check is made out to both of us. Can I cash it?

    A. If the check is made payable to both of you, then both must endorse the check. Even if you and your spouse are now divorced, both must sign the check. By law, each spouse is considered to receive half of the payment in cases where a joint 2007 return was filed.

If the filers chose to have their tax refund direct-deposited, the stimulus payment will be directly deposited into the same account that received the tax refund.

    Q. Is my stimulus payment taxable?

    A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment.

    Q. If my stimulus payment is not going to affect my 2008 tax refund or increase the tax I owe next year, why is it I need to retain the letter that lists how much I received?

    A. In the event you do not qualify for the full amount on your 2007 return but you do on your 2008 return, you will need to have the letter as a record of the amount you previously received.

    Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?

    A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

    Q. I owe some money on my 2007 tax return but the amount I owe is less than my expected stimulus payment. Can I wait to pay the balance due and simply let my stimulus payment cover it?

    A. You should file your 2007 return and pay the entire balance. You should not wait for your economic stimulus payment to offset the balance due. If you wait, penalties and interest will accrue between April 15 and the date the balance is paid, even if it is ultimately covered by the stimulus payment.

    Q. Who can sign a tax return if the taxpayer is mentally or physically unable to sign it?

    A. If the taxpayer is mentally incompetent and cannot sign the return, it must be signed by a party with a valid power of attorney or a court-appointed representative who can act for the taxpayer. If the taxpayer is mentally competent but physically unable to sign the return or POA, a valid “signature” is defined under state law. It can be anything that clearly indicates the taxpayer’s intent to sign. For example, the taxpayer’s “X” with the signatures of two witnesses might be considered a valid signature under a state’s law.

    Q. Is the “stimulus payment” statement required for correct processing of low-income/Social Security/VA benefits returns? Will the lack of the statement have a detrimental effect on taxpayers whose returns were filed without it?

    A. No, as long as the information is in the correct place the IRS will be able to calculate the correct stimulus payment amount.

    Q. If I live in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, will I get a stimulus payment?

    A. In many cases, the answer is yes. But special rules in the law apply to these five U.S. territories (possessions). In general, the tax authorities in each possession will make stimulus payments to eligible residents. The law provides guidelines under which the Treasury Department will make payments to each possession for this purpose. People in these areas with questions about the economic stimulus payments should contact their local tax authority.

    Q. Federal employees residing in some U.S. territories are required to file two tax returns, one with the territory and one with the IRS. Will two checks be issued, and, if so, should they return one of the checks? Which check should be returned?

    A. Individuals residing in the U.S. territories should receive their economic stimulus payment from the territory. If a stimulus payment is received from both the United States Treasury and the territory, the Treasury payment must be returned to the Internal Revenue Service. The U.S. territories include American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Stimulus bill will not work because of the price of gas.

  60. kd says:

Its all for the rich and poor.. working ppl do not get nothing but an extra 7.00 on paycheck each week… We keep bailing out all of these banks and auto industry! and they get their big checks and bonus from our MONEY!

  61. MICHI says:

I have read most of the comments and I have to be honest with some of you guys. I work as a coordinator at a homecare agency and we have plenty of work for whomever wants to work. The problem is that a lot of woman are very comfortable with welfare and do not want to work and also how do you explain that eventhou the economy is bad there are so many people on welfare getting that free money and like someone commented car dealers and banks brought this problems to themselves and we should not have to suffer the consequence. Also gas stations and supermarkets let themselves go by the suppost to be bad economy to kill us with their high prices. It is simply ridiculus. God Bless us all in this corrupted world

  62. Karen says:

Does people realize with us getting this extra money in our checks a week will mean less money we get back at income tax time? Yes, extra money will be nice no matter the amount. But I think I would rather get it all at once at income tax time. It just seems like a lot more all at once, then spreading it all out over the year.

  63. kd says:

The only way this nation is going to get back on track is if these Companies put their production back in the U.S.! When they shipped everything offshore for cheaper pay just because they wanted their bonus bigger.. I keep hearing put your money back in the market?? are you crazy! President! When I see you hold these companies put this all back in the U.S. then I’ll think about it! He needs to hold those companies feet to the fire! People if you do not stand up for your country things are going to get worse!

  64. donny n. says:

I’m 23 years old with an aspiration for wealth. Its easy to see that the economy is shit and that it’s tough to get through these tough times, but what is not as visible are the peoples’ actions. Shut the fuck up and take care of your own shit. Control what YOU can control and everything else will be positively effected. Bottom line is everybody has bills, familys, and etc. Just stop depending on something that may or may not happen. Sure I’d love the stimulus check as much as the next guy, but let us not wait around to better our lives. Good luck to all.

  65. Dnece says:

First off for one of the stupid comments about our Presidents name- Barack means blessed.. and that is how I feel about having the first Black American in office, I pray this man will turn this country around for the better, I know he has the drive to do it.

Second yes we all do need another stimulus check it will help alot of us americans struggling without jobs, both my husband and I are both out of work, no health insurance, we go to social services to try to get some help and unless you are of a different race other than “white” you can’t get help from the Gov’t at all. they claim that we made to much money that we aren’t poor enough, in the meantime my rent needed to be paid, my bills were overdue…. but it seems like unless you don’t speak english and have 6 babies you can’t get help( I’m sorry if I sound prejiduce, but I’m just pissed my kids need health insurance) . I am now in school full time to try and change my career path and hope that I will be able to find a job, and my husband who is disabled but still wants to work can’t find any work.
So in conclusion yes another stimulus check would be a great help.

  66. Michelle says:

Obama is going to give the people on SSI $250.00 in May. What about the other people that are not on SSI. They are out here working there butts off and isn’t recieving nothing. What’s wrong with that pic. and how does he suppose thats going to boost the economy!!!!!!!!!! SOMEBODY TELL ME.

  67. Deborah Dunn says:

I have faith that Barack Obama will do what he said he would do. He a strong man of faith and he shall help our nation recover.

  68. trina says:

I think now that they are not concern about the people now.True our education, health is very important, but what would the good if the childerns are homeless and no food to get up and go to school. The people in Washington have good jobs and money,so why should they worry about how the lesser class make it.Before we got in office it was all this talk now it’s a different talk.People need help not later, but now.

  69. mary says:

i agree with another stimulus check ,everyones having a hard now .

  70. janette says:

I feel That if auto companies and big banks are being bailed out then the american people should be bailed out!

  71. Karen says:

I guess that Obama thinks the extra $13 a week in our paychecks IS our stimulus check, and good enough to help the people out… That is all we are getting how it sounds…

    • Kerry says:

Well that extra 13.00 or less a week went to POT after gas prices started to rise again! He isn’t causing nothing but a big ole cluster #@$!…

  72. Karen says:

I know what you mean…. All we can really do is hope things get better and turn around… I have been out of work for over a year now. (So I’m not getting that extra $13 a week. I get nothing…not even unemployment.). Luckily my husband still has his job and we are surviving on one paycheck (barely). The only thing that is good about me not working is my daughter qualified for more financial aide for college. What scares me is when she graduates she won’t find a job with how the economy is, and the students loans are due 6 months after you graduate!! I am just glad that it is summer now, the heat bills are lower, and we have a garden planted that will help with the food bill. Good luck people. Try to hang in there.
