Apple Replacing 1st Generation iPod Nanos

I don’t know how I missed it the first time around but apparently there is a very rare battery issue in the 1st generation iPod nano and it’s a good thing I did. According to Apple, “in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk.” Those iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006 and Apple will be replacing them free of charge. All you need is the device itself, you don’t send back the other box, manuals, cables, or headphones.
I had one of those early units and it had been sitting on the shelf collecting dust. I probably would’ve disposed of it if it hadn’t been so small! I typed in the serial number, it was eligible, and Apple sent me a shipping envelope to mail back the device. Within a couple weeks, I received one of the new touchscreen iPod nanos (the $129 ones) and I think I might sell it on eBay. I was going to use it to run but Spotify doesn’t work with it. 
Apparently, and this has been going on for a while, people are buying old eligible iPod nanos on eBay (most listings list the serial number, so you can check eligibility before bidding), getting the unit replaced, and then selling the replacement on eBay. This seems like a tailor made hustle I’d be all over if I were in college again.

I saw this on slickdeals a while back. Sent it in and got a brand new generation ipod nano, with color screen. awesome!
Heard about this way back from Consumer Reports. Sent mine in and got a new generation one too. Gave it to my sister to use
