Baltimore Orioles Designated Driver Program

My friend Melissa, a rabid Baltimore Orioles fan, told me yesterday about a designated driver program available at Camden Yards. There is a booth operated by Aramark where if you present a driver’s license, are over twenty-one, and sign a document indicating you won’t drink then you will get two free coupons for soft drinks. Details from the Baltimore Orioles website:

Designated Driver Booth

The ARAMARK Designated Driver Booth is located between gates E and F on the Lower Concourse. Fans of legal drinking age, who hold a valid driver’s license, are eligible to become “designated drivers.” In return for signing a pledge not to drink alcoholic beverages during the game, and for accepting the responsibility for driving other members of their group home, Designated Drivers will receive coupons that can be redeemed at Oriole Park concession stands for free soft drinks during the game. Fans should sign up prior to the start of the 2nd inning to ensure they can participate in the program. The Designated Driver Booth will remain open until approximately 30 minutes after the scheduled first pitch.

Anyone know of a similar program at other ballparks?

This might be worth doing, if only the Orioles could win a game….. as it is, you are better off saving your money and staying home. Yesterday I went to the O’s game and spent about $70 only to see them get blown out 9-3. If the team had been playing like they were at the beginning of the season, it would have been worth it… instead, they just rolled over an played dead for the Red Sox.

    Maybe next year…

    That’s a great idea!

The Dallas Stars hockey team does something like this as well.
