I’ve just been buying small stuff like bottles of water, or a sub sandwich to get the 10 transactions. I usually use my American Express for almost everything to get the reward points.

If you spend less than $1,000 across those ten transactions, you earn more than 1% on it; you can’t find 10 transactions between now and Sept 30 that sum up to less than $1,000?

Having to make 10 PIN-less purchases on the check card means you sacrifice at least 1% on cashback rewards should you pay the purchases in credit card. Not exactly a good deal.
