Bloggers: Use Chitika!
A month or so ago I read on Darren’s Problogger.net website about Chitika eMiniMalls and thought this new advertising company was showing some promise. Then, about a week and a half ago, FiveCentNickel asked me if I had joined yet to which I responded that I hadn’t. He suggested that I try it out because he’d been running it with considerable success, so, as I always do with his suggestions, I tried it out see how it would do.
Chitika has been a resounding success and the revenue these eMiniMalls generate is comparable to that of Google Adsense (and you can run them together).
When I first started using Chitika, I just put it in the sidebar underneath the BlogAd and saw that the conversion rates were comparable to Google but the earnings were much higher. Chitika states they give you 60% of their revenue (Google is silent) which I think is fairly generous. I started adding it to the individual article pages above the comment box (search engines typically drive visitors to individual posts and not the main page) so the impressions and revenue increased considerably.
I like these ads because they contain a lot more information about the product than typical Google Adsense advertisements. It’s a well known fact that images next to a Google Ad drives a reader’s eyeballs to them so the fact that the Chitika ads have images in them helps improve “real” impressions. Darren has a lot of tips on how to make the most out of your Chitika ads and the Chitika Blog also has a few pearls of wisdom.

If you do, I earn a 10% commission on your earnings without any cost to you. So if you were to earn $50 in a month, I would get a check for $5 and you would get a check for $50 - it costs you nothing. It also costs you nothing to join, the code is very simple to integrate into your site, and this is a great alternative to just running Google Adsense.

So far, my Chitika revenue has been nowhere near the level of my Adsense payouts, but I’ll keep tweaking and testing…
Only had the ads running for a few days but not very impressed so far - probably because the blogs I run are not great topics for these product based ads, and also the ads all appear to be based in the U.S. and I’m in the U.K. It does seem that they’re good coupled with the right content though.
