Business2.0′s 10 Fastest Growing Jobs

Business 2.0 released a list of the ten fastest growing jobs, those that will see double digit growth between now and 2014. I’m not sure how they arrived that these numbers but I like them!
- Network systems and data communications analyst (54.6%)
- Physician assistant (49.6%)
- Computer software engineer, applications (48.4%)
- Computer software engineer, systems software (43.0%)
- Network and computer systems administrator (38.4%)
- Database administrator (38.2%)
- Physical therapist (36.7%)
- Medical scientist (34.1%)
- Occupational therapist (33.6%)
- College instructor (36.7%)
Five (whoops) of the top six jobs are nerds, four of the top ten are in the psychology/medical field, and the tenth educates them.

Personally, I think my job is the fastest growing job. I started doing the job of one person, and now I do the job of ten people!
Four of the top six jobs are nerds, four of the top ten are in the psychology/medical field, and the tenth educates them.
In other words, nerds now rule the world and everyone else serves them! Yay nerds!
Actually five of the top six jobs are nerd’s jobs!
I am not sure which you left off, but the only that is not nerd’s is job#2

Note that how many of the top jobs cannot be out-sourced to India? Assuming that the all the IT-related jobs require face-to-face interactions, and that the database/software security is very important, then all of the jobs cannot be out-sourced.
There will be a large need for those in healthcare due the aging of baby-boomers. People are living longer, and there are not enough people to care for them. The shortages will drive salaries up to attract new medical professionals.
This pretty much mirrors the BLS projections if you take a look at Chart 7 on this page.
4+4+1, that’s only nine. Also, I think the therapist positions are not psycologists, but physical therapy type positions. Anything in healthcare or medicine will be hot as the population grows, ages and people live longer. People will also tend to work longer, as it will be more difficult to retire at 65 due to longer lifespans and the decline of traditional corporate pension plans. People will have to rely on government retirement plans (horrifying) and their own inititave(unlikely for most).

Gee, you mean “professional blogger” isn’t one of the fastest growing jobs? And I was just about ready to go back and get my second MBA – a master of blog administration.
