I too got the infamous cancellation letter. I have, or rather had, the cash reward card and I paid the card off every month....no interest from me either. I called to find out why AT&T cancelled my card and I was informed that AT&T is no longer is promoting the cash reward card. I asked why the cash reward card is still (july 19, 2006) being offered at their web site and I was told that no one has gotten around to changing the site yet. LOL! I was further told that my account cancellation became effective on June 30, 2006. Guess what!!! Three July 2006 charges were posted to my ex account! DUH! AT&T couldn't explain that either.

I got the cancellation letter also in mid-May. Funny though, no follow-up letter nor any notice in my monthly bills. I thought all cards were being cancelled - the letter was a little vague - maybe only some people's cards. For previous poster: don't criticize SBC too much, the ATT card is owned by CitiBank. Anyway I just replaced the ATT card with a CitiBank card with the same cash rewards.

Yep, I got the same cancellation notice from AT&T Universal. I guess if you pay your balance, they don't make enough money from your account. I wasn't concerned I have more than enough credit cards that aren't being used already. BTY- I too was a charter member having received the card when it was first issued. Many of these company’s sell/buy/discontinue accounts, so much so that there is no brand loyalty anymore. They will reap what they sow. Which are people that only look at the bottom line-- offer me no interest for 6 or 12 mo.'s and I'll take the money and pay it back before the interest kicks it. Offer me cash back I'll take it as long as the offer is good. You see you can't buy loyalty you have to establish a relationship over generations. Something that many large companies lose sight of, such is life today.

Yes, that's it! AT&T has become a front to cover the incredibly bad service and products of SBC.

Another one bites the dust...

I was a charter member of AT&T Universal and have always used it as a 'backup' for when Amex isn't accepted. I also got the 'you're cancelled' notice. I guess I just wasn't generating enough cash for them---maybe $5K a year of charges. Gosh. It's like the very end of a long era: AT&T used to be the high end of customer service, and now it's just a trade name used by SBC. So much for the promise of a lifetime relationship. Sic transit gloria ... I guess I could call and spend 30 minutes talking to someone overseas who would read me useless data off of a script... or take my business somewhere else. Hmmm. I'll take option B, Norm.

I've had AT&T Universal cash rewards for a couple of years. I received my $300 back each of the first two or more years. so far I've collected about $150 back this year. Problem is I pay off my balance monthly. They've made no interest from me. Yesterday I get a notice they are cancelling my card and did not and will not give a reason. I had the same trouble with the GE cash rewards card several years back.

I have the cash back rewards card. But they are only paying 4% on gas, although the website clearly advertises 5%.

Why the difference? I have not yet got a satisfactory reply from them. An error, or consumer fraud by the company? Please check your statements and see if they are giving you 5% or 4%.

Still jealous that you get Costco gas... I'm dying over here, and Arco charges extra for credit cards...

I double checked it, I do get 5% on payment of my ATT Wireless bill because it's still billed at ATT Wireless... I don't know when it'll switch over to say Cingular.

I doubt the card will hook you with a 5% cash back for your cell phone since Cingular acquired ATT Wireless.

I had the Citibank Credit protector, also. The last time I tried to cancel it they offered $50 in rebate certificates (in $10 increments!) that were good as long as you were enrolled in CP. I faithfully sent in my $10 rebate request every month for 5 months. I made sure not to charge anything in my Citicard during that time, too. When I had received my last $10 check, I called to cancel CP and they let me. I guess they don't want to entice me to stay again!
