Chase Freedom Visa – $200 Bonus Cashback Promotion

Chase Freedom® Visa - $200 Bonus Cash BackI am happy to officially announce the end of the credit crisis. A few years ago, when the credit crisis reared its nasty head, the number of credit card promotions understandably plummeted. Credit card companies and banks were trying to lower their risk and the easiest way to do that was to reduce the number of credit card promotions they offered.

Well, the $200 bonus is back and the Chase Freedom Visa is the first to offer it as long as you make $1,500 in purchases. You get $100 cash back after you spend $500 in the first 3 months and then an additional $100 cash back after you spend an additional $1,000 in the first six months. This is on top of the 5% cash back you get on rotating categories.

  • Earn up to $200 cash back after you make $1,500 in purchases in your first 6 months.
  • 5% Cash Back on up to $1,500 spent on Gas, Hotel and Airline purchases from 7/1/11 – 9/30/11
  • You’ll enjoy new 5% categories every 3 months like grocery stores, dining, department stores and even home improvement stores. It’s free and easy to activate your bonus each quarter!
  • Unlimited 1% Cash Back on all other purchases without limits on what you can earn
  • Up to an additional 10% Cash Back when you shop online at select merchants through Chase
  • Cash back rewards never expire
  • No Annual Fee

  1. Frugal says:

Can an existing Chase Freedom Visa holder take advantage of the offer or is this exclusively for new account holders?

  2. Jim says:

It’s probably for new cardholders only…

  3. zapeta says:

Too bad those of us who have had the card forever can’t get the bonus…

  4. mannymacho says:

The promotions are back, but they are more restrictive. This is probably to scare off the promotion chasers and to recover some of the revenue they lost due to the CARD act.

  5. GE Miller says:

Jim – not sure this actually signals the end of the credit crisis, rather that credit card companies are DESPERATE to attract new accounts. It’s possible that credit restrictions are tighter, limiting the type of borrower they can approve, which is why they are boosting their offers (lower supply base of customers to draw from).

  6. govenar says:

I didn’t notice this type of offer disappearing anyway; but the 0% no fee balance transfer offers I did notice going away.

  7. MGA says:

Good, but too bad I swore off Chase after a run in with some fees.

  8. stillthinking says:

I can’t seem to find the rule that says I have to spend $1,500 before I get the $200 cashback bonus. Please tell me where you read this. I won’t sign up until this “too good to be true” offer is verified. Thanks.
