Citi Platinum Select & Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card: $30 Statement Credit

It seems as though the credit card companies are a little tired of the banks getting all the attention for their bank deals. Citi emailed me yesterday about a new promotion they’re running, a $30 statement credit for new Citi Platinum Select MasterCard and Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card members.
Update: Citi will no longer be promoting the $30 Statement Credit previously offered with the Platinum Select Card.
The requirements for the $30 statement credit are easy – make $30 in purchases that are not returned within the first 3 months of account opening. Statement credit will appear within 8 weeks. It doesn’t get any easier than that and it sure beats a t-shirt, frisbee, or whatever crap you got in college when you signed up for a credit card, right?
For what it’s worth, I can’t remember a time when Citi offered a new account bonus for cards that didn’t have an annual fee. Offering 15,000 miles on a travel or airline branded credit card is almost standard, but rare for a non-travel card.
Both cards have no annual fee and both offer 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers if you qualify, which is 50% more than your average 0% balance transfer offer.

Hmm I didn’t get an email. Must check!
Sounds like a good promotion if you’re in the market for a new card.
Watch Out! They WILL get the $30 back, and more!
Don’t read that to say “I’m getting $30″, read it to say “how much more than $30 is this going to cost ME”!
care to elaborate as to why? you have piqued my interest
It is common knowledge that when you gharge a purchase, the retailer pays a transaction fee to the card company, even though you aren’t paying that, you are causing the merchant to pay it.
NEVER carry a balance or you pay in service chargeg and/or late fees.
Do they sell information about your shoping habits to others (data warehouses)?
Do they send you advertisenebts in the e(nail)?
They will get back (make) the $30 and a “whole lot more”.
And these are just things I know to be true, I am sure there are others that I am not aware of!

I believe this card had cash back feature a long time ago…i still get it…but at present i cannot see the cash back offer for this card
Anything you get back (or dou get a credit) is great.
Any kind of rebate whether its cash, points, airline miles, usually causes the card holder to use their card more thus generating more $$ for the card company. Ever think about paying cash for something and then chang your mind and cahrg it thinking you will get something back by charging?
REMEMBER: Rule #1: Nothings FREE!
Rule #2: See Rule #1!
Really? The root of credit is time and value of money. Credit serves as a free cash flow. When billed, pay off the balance. If you cannot afford this strategy, you should not have a credit card. Used strategically, a credit card often provides 30-45 days of free cash flows, allowing for fast access liquidity accounts to earn additional interest. Cash rewards is a great benefit but again, only for the savvy credit manager.
