It seems as though the credit card companies are a little tired of the banks getting all the attention for their bank deals ^[3]. Citi emailed me yesterday about a new promotion they’re running, a $30 statement credit for new Citi Platinum Select MasterCard ^[3] and Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card members ^[4].

Update: Citi will no longer be promoting the $30 Statement Credit previously offered with the Platinum Select Card.

The requirements for the $30 statement credit are easy – make $30 in purchases that are not returned within the first 3 months of account opening. Statement credit will appear within 8 weeks. It doesn’t get any easier than that and it sure beats a t-shirt, frisbee, or whatever crap you got in college when you signed up for a credit card, right?

For what it’s worth, I can’t remember a time when Citi offered a new account bonus for cards that didn’t have an annual fee. Offering 15,000 miles on a travel or airline branded credit card is almost standard, but rare for a non-travel card.

Both cards have no annual fee and both offer 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers if you qualify, which is 50% more than your average 0% balance transfer offer ^[5].
