Citi Price Rewind

I logged into my Citi Forward account when I did my review of BillGuard and an interstitial ad appeared for Citi Price Rewind, a new service that let’s you register a purchase and Citi will search for a better price for thirty days. If they find one that is at least $25 lower, they refund the difference with a limit of $250 per item and $1,000 per calendar year:

Now, when you buy an item with your Citi® card, worrying about paying the lowest price is behind you. Simply register your purchase and Citi Price Rewind will search products across hundreds of retailers. If the same item is found and is at least $25 lower than what you paid within 30 days of your purchase, Citi Price Rewind can refund you the difference.*

This sounds a lot like American Express’s now-defunct Best Value Guarantee (even the limits are similar) and it matches some price matching benefits offered on a handful of Citi cards. The part that makes Citi Price Rewinda hassle is that you have to register your purchases.

To start the process, you have to search for the item using a UPC, name, model number, or a description. Then, once you find it, you have to enter in your purchase details – how much, when you bought it and where. Then they search for a better price for thirty days. If they find it, you have to file a claim within 90 days of the purchase.

I’m testing it out by having them track a recent wedding shower purchase (a Cuisinart DCC-2650 Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker we bought on Amazon) but I’m not hopefully they can find it for $25+ less (it’s a hundred bucks, which, by the way, is a crazy price for a coffee maker). An interesting program but there are so many hoops, I suspect I’d only do it for really big purchases and we haven’t made any of those in a while.

Have you used the program?

Thanks for the heads up! I think I saw this before but didn’t stop to read the details. Just bought a bunch of semi expensive stuff before the Amazon tax started so perfect timing to try this out.

Thanks for sharing Jim. I have not tried it but I like the idea.

I wish they could automate the process more fully so you wouldn’t have to manualy enter the information.

Many of the larger banks are now catching up to the Mint system and trying to learn from their business model.

It makes you wonder if finding a colleage kid or some version of Task Rabbit will ever enter into this market.

I would be interested in having someone look at my expense data for the year and paying them to find a 5% cut. I would give them 25% of what they found.
