About Clark Howard

Clark HowardClark Howard is the first radio host on the Top Money Guru poll. The Clark Howard Show is nationally syndicated personal finance advice show that not only talks about the basics of personal finance (spending less, saving more) but also delves into an area many personal finance experts don’t – how to avoid getting ripped off. The Clark Howard Show is syndicated on over two hundred radio stations so chances are you’ve heard him at least once in your life, even if you didn’t know his name (and his show is streamed online at his website from 1-3pm ET).

This profile is part of our Top Money Guru poll. For the next two weeks we’ll be highlighting ten personal finance experts for our first ever Top Money Guru poll – you can vote for your favorite guru here. It takes less than a minute and you could win a $100 Amazon Gift Card. Poll ends June 10th.

While he is most well known for his radio show and television show, Clark Howard on HLN, I’m really glad he wrote Get Clark Smart, which rose to #6 on the New York Times bestseller list (so he could be included in our top money guru poll). In addition to Get Clark Smart, he’s written about half a dozen other books including another NYT bestseller Big Book of Bargains.

On Howard’s show, he takes calls and tries to help people through whatever problem their facing. If you can’t call in then, or can’t get through, you can always work with his Consumer Action Center (called Team Clark Howard). The Consumer Action Center is staffed with volunteers who will help you absolutely free. It’s a great service and while I’ve never used it, I suspect many have with great success.

Guru Vitals:

  • Twitter Followers: ~67,500
  • Facebook Fans: ~153,000
  • # of Books: 8

You can find him on Twitter @ClarkHoward or through his website ClarkHoward.com.

I’ve started listening to Clark’s podcast just over a month ago. I know more than the average person about personal and corporate finance. Granted, most of the time I already know plenty about the topics discussed. However, I’ve still learned quite a bit about things I hadn’t considered before. Things that, as pointed out in the article, most financial folks don’t talk much (or even at all) about. Things like freezing credit, preventing identity theft, challenging collection agencies, avoiding scams or rip-offs, etc. This guy has a wealth of information and I’d highly recommend listening to the Clark Howard show on a regular basis!

I’d say that Clark Howard is my favorite ‘money guru’. HIs advice tends towards the more practical stuff liked budgeting and frugal tactics. Its all real practical and no psycho babble or biased opinionated stuff like I see from some other gurus. I’ve watched his TV show on HLN some. You can also get podcasts via his website.

I wish I knew more about some of these people, but since I don’t I can’t make an educated selection

Clark Howard is “Mr. Basics” aka “Mr.Common Sense” aka “Good Friend” of the American Consumer.
I have personally spoke with him via his radio program, receiving great money saving advice.
He continues to point out the scams, hidden costs, false advertising claims, potentially expensive fees, and failures within the “consumer industry”.
He spots areas where the consumer may not completely understand contractual agreements with public service products/telecommunication contracts, banking regulations and vulnerable tax requirements. He saves you money! He’s a honorable man.. to bad we can’t elect him to high offices.

Another of my favorite money guru’s. I try to catch him every weekend on HLN network. I’m not really a CNN fan (HLN is a CNN network)but Clark is just soooo spot on. Frugal, unlike your uncle Frugal Fred, and cool at the same time.
