Weekly Roundup - 06/29/07

Well, after two long days, we made it back into town safely. We covered 2900+ miles in 12 days, with the bulk of the driving packed into the first and last two days. We’re beat, but we had a great time and are glad to be back home. With that said...

I would never call a customer service dept for something important like canceling an account: cough up the 41 cents and go old skool, mail a hard copy letter, and ask for written confirmation once the account is canceled.

Arrgh -

I called discover card years ago and asked them to quit sending me the convenenice checks. They honored my request quickly without having to threaten cancelling the account. No more stupid checks every three weeks in my PO box just begging to be used (that would never happen).

Just call up the company and tell them to stop. Worked for me.

A favorite of mine is that you can only cancel a card from 9 - 5. I still having canceled a card because I keep forgetting to call during the appointed hours.

What drives me nuts are the blank 'checks' they send you each month. They're the primary reason I have a shredder machine.
