Discover Card Get More – 5% Cashback Restaurants, Movies, Books

Back in June I wrote about Discover Card’s Get More program where they pick a group of vendors, organized around what’s hot for that quarter (so think school supplies for the Fall), and they announced their picks for the holiday season this year.

Restaurants—From fast food to fine dining

Movies—From movie tickets to movie rentals

Books, Music and Everything Else

In-store or online from these specific retailers:

  • AMAZON.COM
  • Barnes & Noble
  • Borders®
  • Circuit City
  • Crutchfield®

This set of vendor types sounds eerily like the 5% cashback vendors for the Citi mtvU card- restaurants, bookstores, record stores, movie theaters, and video rentals. The only thing that Discover doesn’t have are free points for good grades and on-time payment!

If you’re itching for a Discover card, I recommend the Discover Open Road Card for Students only because you can get 5% on gasoline too. You can read more about the Get More program.

  1. King Asa says:

If you get the Discover Gas Card, you are ineligible for the “Get More” program. You either have to get the regular discover card and be subject to the Get More vendor choices for that quarter, or use the gas card for 5% on gas only.

Also, its worth noting that the discounts that you listed don’t start until October 1, at which point the previous offers expire. I’m thinking about holding off on purchasing a TV until October 1 at Circuit City! Thats $50 back on a $1000 TV, up to $100 if I double it with certain vendors!
