Do You Really Need A Monogrammed Credit Card?

Remember back in junior high when you had friends that had their initials monogrammed on their backpacks? How about that guy in the office that has his initials stitched on the cuffs of his shirts or the pocket over his breast? The backpack stitching was cool (yes it was) and the cuff stitching is classy, but are they really necessary? Are they worth the premium? I mean outside of giving someone a nice gift (which those things usually are), do you really need stuff monogrammed?
Now, take what you feel about that and check out the Discover Student Monogram card and tell me if you Discover’s vanity play is going to work? I don’t think it’s any surprise it’s a student card but if you were a student, would you pick this card over another one with similar characteristics, just because you saw your initials? (granted, I don’t know where else you can get a pink or lime green credit card)
Other than the ridiculousness of a monogrammed credit card, the card itself isn’t any different than any other Discover Student card with the same benefits – 0% balance transfer for six months, the Get More program of 5% cash back on rotating vendor types, no annual fee, and the other good stuff Discover is known for. So really it’s just making a vanity play.
