Being charged for a wrong class toll is probably the result of going through the toll booth too fast. If you go though too fast and it doesn't read your EZPass, then it takes a photo of your license plate and bills you the full standard toll. That is the penalty for not following the speed limits through the toll.

I combed through my statements for the past 6 months and they are spot on. The computer doesn't usually screw things up... it's usually the driver not following directions.

I'm pretty sure when you receive the transponder, the instructions tell you to keep the pouch. If you didn't, you can probably get them from a computer parts supplier.

I haven't checked my E-ZPass statements in a very long time. I didn't even consider checking them, and the E-ZPass website is -- or was, as I haven't looked recently -- very user-friendly.

You should always keep the silvery anti-static packaging the E-ZPass comes in, and place it in the pouch whenever it is not being used... that would avoid the issue that CK wrote about.

This reminds me of the story of a guy who moved from NY to TN sent his EZpass back and wound up with some mysterious toll charges. Turns out the EZpass was paying tolls while riding around in the back of the UPS trucks.
