This interesting news release by the Highway Loss Data Institute (link ^[3]), indicates that the 2003-05 Cadillac Escalade, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 4WD, and the Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab have the highest rates of theft claims. “The 3 vehicles have claim rates 4 to 5 times the average for all vehicles.” The lowest frequency was for Ford Taurus’ Pontiac Vibe 4WD, Buick LeSabre, Buick Park Avenue, and the Toyota Sienna 4WD. The Escalade’s average loss payment per claim was nearly $18,000 while the Taurus only cost insurers $3,800 each loss. You and that dude across the street both think your new Escalade is real nice… watch out! (Don’t buy a Ford Taurus though, there’s a reason no one steals them).
