I work at Target and I can say that our OFFICIAL policy is 14 days (we have a function on our registers just for this...) however you are right, you can ALWAYS "return and rebuy" and so usually you have an "unofficial" 90 day policy (90 days for returns) True a local employee or manager could make you ACTUALLY return and reguy the item, but WHY? It's soooo much easier to just give you money back from the receipt and it keeps the customer happy...which is the goal of these policies anyways!

Just my $0.02

Most stores are ok with this, but actually, Target is the one that I've found that was stricter. They told me 14 (or was it 15?) days. They'll take returns for 90 but only price match, even their own prices for the 2 weeks. I had to return my product, wait for them to restock the shelves and then rebuy. I even emailed their corporate office who said this was indeed the policy.

My husband & I had an interesting Circuit City story. One time they were having one of those few hour sales with limited quantities on a Sunday only. In the flyer, it said there were a minimum of 14 of this particular item per store. Normal price was like $80 a piece and it was on sale for about $20. My husband called up the store to see how many they had in stock. 7. You mean 7 pair? (it was speakers) No, just 7. He was annoyed since they advertised a minimum quantity per store so he called their corporate office who encouraged him to go in the day before, buy them, go in the next day and take the 110% price difference, which totally worked, no hassles or anything.

I have found that most stores are good about this and don't make me return the item and rebuy it. I actually do this quite a bit and usually they just take the receipt and change the price for me.

Sometimes its as simple as walking into the store and asking for a price adjustment. I used to work for Neiman Marcus, and we had sort of an unspoken rule that if a customer asked for a price adjustment for something they had bought, and that subsequently went on sale during the following week, we would give it to them. Ultimately, stores want their customers happy - and a price adjustment is better than a flat out return.

Target is very generous and liberal with their price drop policy- especially when things go on clearance. They have returned and re-sold things at the lower price for me many times. You just need your receipt or your Target card. Kohl's is also very big on this. Ann Taylor Loft, however, requires that you bought the item on your Ann Taylor Credit Card. It will not price drop with cash, check, or other credit cards. In that situation, since I don't have an ATL card, I have returned the item for a refund, walked around the store, selected it again, and checked out.
