It really depends on your local team and stadium. Not to brag about my awesome Phillies (Go Phils!) but while Yankee fans pay an arm and a leg to attend games and eat, standing room tickets for the 2008 World Champions of Baseball are still just $13 each, with a nosebleed seat starting at around $15. We sit behind right field for $23 dollars each on special occasions, and usually go during a food promotion like "Dollar Dog Night" were a five hot dog meal is $5 (That's a lot of hot dogs). That means our price total for the whole trip can range from $36 to $56 for two people to have a few hours of entertainment. If you work the system, you can totally do it cheap.

Add me to the hiking contingency. We have a toddler, so mountain biking is on hold for now! We live adjacent to National Forest, so we don't even need a car, we literally walk out the front door. I did invest in a $250 child carrier and a high end down snowsuit for the little one, so there were some up front costs. All have fantastic resale value on craigslist. Hiking has all the nice "reset your brain" qualities of drinking wine in the afternoon, but without the nasty hangover by dinnertime! :-)

I think a great idea especially when trying to think of somewhere to take your partner is a picnic. Not only is it much cheaper than going out to a restaurant, but it's much more intimate and allows you to be more creative.

I took to the girlfriend to the zoo this weekend and went out to lunch at a sandwich place in the city...

$20-ish for lunch, $15 for the zoo...pretty inexpensive and fun date...

even takes you back to when you were really young going to the zoo on fieldtrips...good times!

I agree on Settlers/Seafarers and several others on Baker's list. I would add Bootleggers to the list, too. There's nothing like it!

We have a lot of wineries on the North Fork of Long Island. We usually pack some sandwiches, cheese and crackers, and have fun sampling the latest offerings from the various vineyards. There are seasonal festivals that we attend also. It's a nice, cheap trip out to the country.

check out your local city website. I know that once the spring/summer rolls around, there are many free outdoor events from Jazz festivals to cultural/ethnic celebrations. Its really nice to see these things and they are always free (you just have to pay for food from the different stalls at nominal fees)

I love taking a hike in our neighborhood. We live in an area where on one side of the hills, you can see nothing but green rolling hills for miles and on the other side, a view of the Golden Gate and Mount Tamalpais. Redwoods, unique architecture of the homes is the, the Rose Garden and heading down the hill to have dinner, wine and/or coffee and heading up back home just in time to see the sunset.

Get a mobile phone with a lot of free minutes and a tub of grapes and a bottle of nice vino, then dig out your old address book and call 5 people you haven't spoken to in years.

3 will be out, one won't take your call, and one will talk to you for an amazing hour and you'll get a friend back who you lost because you were too busy to stay in touch.

I really like to do geocaching. I have only done this once or twice but it is not very expensive at all. Geocaching is lie finding a hidden treasure where the cooridnates are posted online at specific latitude/longitude and you have to use a GPS system to find it. So really you are required to have a GPS (not cheap) but a lot of people have those and once that is purchased there is endless fun to be had. you can find more information at the following site:
