Your Take: How Will You File Your Taxes?

When it comes to preparing and filing your taxes, there are a variety of options. You can prepare your taxes electronically with software like TurboTax and efile for a few dollars. You can prepare you taxes on paper, double check with software like TurboTax, and then mail in your return (for those keeping track at home, this basically means you prepare your taxes twice). You can work with an accountant, either at an independent CPA firm or one associated with one of the tax preparers, which still gives you the option of efiling or mailing in your return. Whatever method you choose, the only rule is that you file by April 15th (or April 18th this year).
How will you be filing your taxes and why?

I’ve used TurboTax in the past (it seems ok; kind of tedious for entering stock transactions; and sometimes I entered things manually on the forms since their “easy” interface was too hard to use). This year H&R Block at Home only cost 1 cent, so I’ll probably try that.
I’ve used TurboTax and this year I’m planning on doing H&R Block at Home. I’m curious to compare and see if they arrive at the same conclusions.
I am efiling through H&R Block all the way. I’ve done it that way for 3 years and love the service.
Do you have a pretty basic return? How much do they charge you for Federal, state and local returns?
I have an accountant do our joint return and a corporation return. I do my 4 kids returns at HR Block for free. Real simple.
The accountant does the hard ones because corps return is confusing. Also joint return is a big pain in the neck and I don’t need the stress
Doing your own business return could be a little tricky if you don’t know what you are doing. A good accountant can practically pay for themselves with their expertise.
I have used TurboTax and TaxCut (a while ago) and loved it. One year, my wife and I had just moved and were extremely busy so we decided to have H&R Block do the return. I don’t know how, but that was the only year we owed. We were young, and ended up paying the stupid tax. Never again. TurboTax all the way. Plus, I get a discount on Quicken, which I also love and would buy regardless.
