It wouldn’t be a proper Monday without another Personal Finance Hour , right? JD Roth and I will be getting together again tonight at 6PM Eastern, 3PM Pacific, to discuss the topic of “finding balance” in your life. It’s a topic that has been on JD’s mind a lot lately (he wrote about finding balance between time and money today) and it’s something that I think should be on my mind more.
Balance has been something my dad has talked to me about since I was a kid. Asian parents hold academics in very high regard because a good education and high marks in school was your ticket out of poverty. That basic premise is true in the United States as well, as so many immigrants made their way into the country on education visas (it was a little easier to get), and so Asian parents would demand that their children study all the time. My dad wasn’t like that at all. Before dinner, my time was my own. I watched television, I played football in the street, and I ran around the neighborhood. After dinner, I was studying, practicing the piano, and then sleeping. You have to balance fun and work because if you do too much of one, you’ll suffer from the absence of the other.
JD and I will talk about it some more tonight on the show and I invite you to call in to share your anecdotes, ask questions, or just say hello. You can call in and listen to the live show feed by calling (347) 327-9144. If you want to ask a question, just hit “1” and your number will flash on our switchboard. I recommend following @jdroth and @bargainr on Twitter and dm’ing or @’ing us to tell us what your area code is, that’s the only identification I get as to who is on the line.
If you just want to listen, you can visit the page for the 3rd episode of the Personal Finance Hour and play it from the widget. There is also a chat room that’s always pretty entertaining if you’re interested.
