The Bargaineering Forums have been a hit so far, with over 60 members and numerous active discussions. Readers have been able to post their questions and get a myriad of opinions. I wanted to reiterate that we have a giveaway going on too. On February 13th, I will randomly select one forum participant with at least five forum posts to receive a CD containing a full service copy of Quicken Premier 2009 – an $80 value. If you want to give it as a Valentine’s gift, by all means, but I don’t recommend it!
And if there are any bloggers (or future bloggers) out there, we’ve also created a Blogging forum where you can post your questions, ideas, thoughts, whatever. If you have any blogging questions, it’s the place to post it because we have some of the top personal finance bloggers checking the forums every day!
If you have never used a Quicken Premier product, I have to warn you… it’s very powerful. It has a lot of tools and a lot of features that will be able to give you a very good idea of where you are in your finances, how you are performing against your goals, and everything you need to handle your money on a daily basis. That said, it can also be a little intimidating at first. The $80 price tag is well worth it, as anyone who has come to appreciate the power of Quicken can tell you, but it may be overkill if you have no idea where to start when it comes to managing your money. I don’t want to dissuade you from entering the giveaway or buying the product, far from it, but I want you to be prepared for it should you buy or win it.
If you are familiar with managing your money but only have a few things to track (some bank accounts, a few bills, a 401k), it might be a great tool for you because you can play with the tool a little bit each day. The nice thing about the tool, over the online version, is that all the data is stored locally and only used to interface with other financial institutions. If you’re not comfortable with saving your sensitive data online, despite it being encrypted and protected, this is definitely the best option for you.
If you’re just starting out, you might want to cut your teeth on Quicken Online. It’s absolutely free and is similar to other online money management applications except there’s a heavy emphasis on cash flow management. They are very much focused on helping you manage your cash flow, from your paychecks coming in to your regular bills going out, so that you don’t find yourself in a financially precarious position. I just saw a quick demo of the product from their PR team, as well as a first look at their new iPhone application, and I’ll be discussing that later in the week.
Good luck!

I have used Quicken Basic for years and have been very happy with it for the most part. I am by no means a Luddite, and perhaps because I am aware of the limitations of internet security, I have been very wary of using Quicken online or Mint.com. It just seems like my financial and personal data are sitting out there skilled hacker to exploit. Any input to assuage my fears?
Great forum. Have been a long time reader. But never left a comment before. And slowly getting serious about savings, retirement etc. Quicken will help me lot achieve those goals. Thanks for the blog and the quicken giveaway.
I have been playing around with Quicken Online. I have found its tools to be very limited. It says it is up to date when it is not. It is confused by my odd check receiving schedule and stopped connecting with my checking account for a couple weeks and never regained that data, but it is fun to play with. Perhaps I should be more careful online? I figure since all of my accounts are on-line, I don’t see much difference having Quicken as well…
I just found your site recently and I love it! It would be great to own Quicken. My husband does not like the idea of puttind our financials Online!
Do 5 replies here count?
(Great way to stir up conversation. This is one giveaway I would really like!)

Haha, no they don’t.
However, I do periodically look in the top commenters list for people with ING Referrals so you could make a little referral money for being on the list.
I think I have hit it today.
My biggest problem is I have way too many things to do and I am likely to forget about this contest later….

Wow – all this excitement will Quicken all our hearts – pun intended! I’ve lusted after Quicken to organize me when I can’t organize myself. Love your blog & help. Thanks!
Definitely give Quicken Online a look, it’s absolutely free and like dipping your toe in the water.
I have used quicken for a long time maybe 10 years and upgraded and upgraded. But I will tell you that quicken can make you obsessive. I can tell you how much I spend in a year on gum. Quicken has expanded its software and to tell the truth I liked some of the old versions better. Sometimes bigger is not better. I do not have 2009 and I have to update. (I know from experience that quicken will stop supporting older versions). Thank you for your contest.
i used quicken years ago however i have not used it recently and am considering trying it once again thanks for the giveaway
I’ve never used Quicken, I bet even a computer/math dummy like me could master it.
I’ve started using Quicken online and think I would benefit from a complete Quicken. I went online to order it, and if I’m remembering correctly did not because the version I wanted was not Mac compatible. Did I misunderstand?
I have used Quicken for the last 12 years. Started with basic and now use premier because of it’s advanced features for investments. I track my credit card, IRS’s, 401K’s and bank accounts every day so I have an instant snap shot of our financial situation at any time. It’s really nice to have the ability to go back years to find a check that you wrote or any other financial transactions made. I download updated transaction information from the financial institutions we use which saves a whole lot of typing. You can search by multiple criteria and if you need to see every check you wrote to any payee, it’s easy to do. We’re currently using Quicken 2007 and are really happy with it’s features. I don’t know what has been added to Quicken 2009, but I’m sure from past experience that it will great. I love the program and would recommend it to anyone.
OK, so who won this?
Brad
I posted it on the forums!
