All this talk about credit scores from diff places really means nothing where ever u get your scores from you should really be paying attention to your rating not the score because for the most part from fico, adv.or plus score your rating poor, fair, good or excellent will will be the same.

Each of the three major credit reporting agencies has their own scoring algorithm. And, all creditors do not necessarily report to all three of the bureaus. Therefore, your score will be different with each of the three reporting agencies (Experian, Transunion and Equifax).

Many creditors (Ex: car dealers) will only retrieve your credit score from just one of the bureaus. Therefore a place you apply for credit may tell you your score is 'x' which will be different from the score that another creditor may see if they use the information and score from a different bureau.

If you apply for a mortgage the lenders will typically retrieve your credit report from all three bureaus (called a tri-merge credit report) and will base your approval on your middle score of the three.

It is really important to review your credit history with all 3 reporting agencies because data in their files will usually be somewhat different. A previous creditor may have reported to one or two of the bureaus but not all three.

I like how I am being constantly judged based on my credit score; my life revolves around it, and yet it is easy for anyone to get that score - EXCEPT ME! What?!

And why are the FICO formulas for computing your score treated like state secrets? How can you ever win if you don't know the rules of the game?

The credit system is a joke for anyone not on the board of a bank. Then it is a million-dollar bonus.

I agree with some of the other commenters, I think it is absolutely ridiculous that your credit scores aren't free. It is *my* information - that everyone under the sun seems be able to easily access - EXCEPT FOR ME! What?!

And I love how the formulas and criteria that FICO uses to compute that score is like state secrets - classified and vaulted. We can never stop being slaves to this system because we can never find out the rules of the game!

The whole credit/banking system is a joke.

Yes, but were they all opened recently? If you open many new lines of credit then banks look at the average age of all your accounts and may bash your score if it is too low. The good news is, as these lines mature (and if you have on-time payments) you will have a much better score, and if you keep these in good standing for say, 10-15 years, your score will be *amazing*, unless you ruin your credit with something else.

P.S.: Nowadays poor scores aren't all that uncommon. Many credit companies weigh things like steady employment much more heavily than just the score - or so I've heard =).

Unless there have been recent changes, maximum credit score varies: TransUnion range: 150-934, Experian range: 330-830 and Equifax range: 300-850. Generally, a score of 700 or greater is very good, a score below 600 is poor. and the majority of us are between 600-700. The Federal Gov't made it so we can all get a free annual credit report, but NOT your credit SCORE. The 3-digit number that is SO important to our financial health, we must pay to see!
