In the week leading up to Christmas, we found in-demand toys marked down as loss leaders at a number of major retailers (Toys 'R' Us, London Drugs, etc.). We used the sales to pick up birthday gifts at hefty discounts for our daughters' friends and we're probably good to go for the next year. Hitting pre-holiday sales is a great strategy not only for decorations but for other stuff as well.
