HSBC Bank online now has a 4.25% APY. I wonder if Emigrant will match it. I saw this on MyMoneyBlog. It also tells how to get a $25 opening bonus.

Banks are money grubbing whores. Suprise!

Look at this little tidbit of info about banks from this site

Average ATM fee rose to $2.91, all time high.
Americans pay est. $4.3B in withdrawal fees (Bankrate)
Insufficient funds fee fell to $26.90 from $27.13

Use E*trade bank. They reimburse all ATM fees at any bank anywhere any time. Works like a charm. The reimbursement comes to your account within about 24 hours. With this, you don't need any restrictive plans.

Here are two things I do:

1) Get cash back when using your debit card at grocery stores, post offices, even Home Depot!

2) Look for fee-free ATMs on this website: http://www.sum-atm.com/index.asp

Also investigate whether or not your bank offers accounts which will reimburse
you for foreign-bank ATM fees. My own bank does not charge ATM fees,
and they reimburse me up to $15.00 per month in foreign-bank ATM fees.
