I was also given separation papers which ultimately included statments of 'I won't sue you'. I had a lawyer look them over just in case before signing, ...after review I did end up signing. In fact severance was offered and without signature, no severance. Of course :)

Great story so far.. looking forward to second part in the afternoon. Like Sarah, I never quite put much thought to it when people leave a company.. I also assume people leave on good term (unless noted otherwise) - so its a bit interesting to read about how her work environment started to change even though she continued to excel at her work and delivering her responsibilities.

Ha, I realized afterwards that the title probably gives the ending away. :)

A similar situation happened to a friend of mine in management. Essentially, a new caustic personality entered into upper management and determined that all of the female directors weren't aggressive enough. He has demoted or fired them all.

Before leaving they have were asked to sign "I won't sue you" papers. The company was doing great in the downturn, too. 5 years of dedicated service down the drain.

I'm looking forward to the rest of this story, sadly I have a pretty good idea of how it ends.

On a good note, it sounds like "Sarah" probably has a lot of marketable skills that will help her find employment elsewhere.

I doubt it will make her feel much better, but I've seen that "mean boss" look before as well. It happened to my brother.
