How To Get Your 2008 Stimulus Rebate Check Faster

Have you been awaiting word on when you expect your stimulus package? First, check the stimulus calculator located near the end of my original 2008 Stimulus Package Explained article. If you are eligible for a check, when you can expect it will depend on the last two digits of your social security number.

If they have your direct deposit information available on file, then you follow this schedule:

  • 00 – 20: May 2
  • 21 – 75: May 9
  • 76 – 99: May 16

If they do not have your direct deposit information, then this is your schedule:

  • 00 – 09: May 16
  • 10 – 18: May 23
  • 19 – 25: May 30
  • 26 – 38: June 6
  • 39 – 51: June 13
  • 52 – 63: June 20
  • 64 – 75: June 27
  • 76 – 87: July 4
  • 88 – 99: July 11

So if your social security number is 000-00-0034 then you will receive the stimulus package amount on May 9th if you have direct deposit and you will receive the stimulus package check on June 6th. As you can see, you get the money nearly a month earlier if they have your direct deposit information.

How do you give them your direct deposit information? You give it to them when you file your return. Be sure to input your direct deposit information on your 1040 on line 74 (a-d). Once they have it there, you can get your check considerably sooner. Don’t be a fool, direct deposit. :)

Over $1200 in credit card promotional offers, take advantage of it!

This is a very important question i have. I am hoping i get mine before me and my husbands vacation on may 28th. I have always direct deposited. This year i didn’t because i had to pay off my trip and wanted to save the money. It says if my direct deposit infomation is on file they will direct deposit the rebate check.. So would my direct deposit infomation still be on file from previous years

  2. Sarah Harrienger says:

Everyone at work says they got a letter declaring they would be recieving the tax incentive check due to be sent in May 2008. I should qualify for the break but I didn’t get a letter. How do I know for sure I will get it?

  3. Kelly says:

Did I read correctly in that you will only receive $300 for dependents under the age of 17? What about the dependents who are 20 and full-time students? I have a dependent who is 20 and made more than the required amount to not file a return. So, according to what I read I won’t get the rebate for her and she won’t get it either because she was my dependent. Technically you are paying more for those dependents than some younger ones. It certainly seems as though some individuals who could really use the money were left out of this plan.

  4. liz says:

i am filing my 2006 and 2007 taxes together this month. i do not owe, but will receive a refund for both years. will this affect me receiving the tax break check?

  5. Scottb says:

Will the rebate we recieve be deducted from next years taxes (2008) or do we have to pay taxes on like it is income?

  6. Deanna Gonsalves says:

I recieved my taxe refund from a rapid check refund how do i give my direct deposit information to recieve the stimulus check sooner?

  7. amanda says:

how do you recieve your check if i moved out of state since i filed would they forward the check if i put in a change of address with the post office

  8. Shorty says:

My son and I receive Social Security benefits for about 7 months. My husband and I filed together with our son as a dependable and his mother cause he takes care of her thru the months. Would I still have to file a 1040A for my son, reason I asked they sent me a form for him. Also would my husband get a check in his name for all 3 he carried on his return. Because he is the only one to get wages from a job.

  9. tina says:

shorty, if your dependents are over 17, a seperate return must be filed using his S.S. benefits. If under 17 your husband will get credit for him. As for his mother she must file her own return listing her s.s. benefits or pension benefits.

  10. tina says:

amanda, yes as long as you put in a forward it will get to you

  11. tina says:

Deanna, if you did not enter dir. dep. info on your tax return the stimulus payment must be mailed

  12. jillian says:

Regarding direct deposit, I don’t know if these people are going with personal experience or just what they’ve read, but years ago after mailing my 1040 with no dir. dep info (and due a refund) I sent out a separate Form 8888 (typically used for multiple deposit accounts) to the IRS with my checking/routing info on it and actually received my refund electronically. I spoke with a local IRS office employee beforehand who was not optimistic, but I went ahead anyway. I attached a brief signed letter with my SSN and signature and a voided copy of my check. It can be done.

  13. Brittany says:

So If we already did our taxes (before any stimulus payment was announced) and we got our refund on a card the same day we did our taxes…not through direct deposit…there is no way to send a direct deposit form to the IRS now in order to get the check faster???

  14. Chuck says:

I did my taxes, Direct Deposit, on HR Blocks website. No RAL or anything special, just directly to my account waited a couple of weeks and there my money was. Will the IRS direct deposit my rebate check?

  15. Chuck says:

I had my refund direct deposited into my account via HR Block. No RAL or any special refund just waited 2 weeks and got my refund. Will I get a check or direct deposit on my rebate payment?

  16. porshia says:

I know of two people who have received the stimulus package money in the state kansas.

  17. jillian says:

    porshia-

The government will not start doling out the stimulus payment until May 2, 2008.

If anything, those two people received high-cost anticipation loans on the federal economic stimulus payments they are expected to receive.

Not a smart move, unless you are desperate for the money.

  18. nora garcia says:

do we have to pay back the stimulus payment

  19. Wahoo! May 9 for me! I am sick of THE MAN taking all of our money, and although I am in SUPER need of this cash, I will be in trouble FOR YEARS, unless this country fixes all of this garbage economy. I am just lucky I have a good job that will hopefully be there for a while…

  20. TERESA OLLIS says:

I NEED A PLACE TO CHANGE MY ADDRESS ONLINE AT IRS.GOV AS WELL AS THE POST OFFICE

  21. Jay says:

If i did my taxes through turbo Tax, and had it direct deposited through them, does that mean the IRS has my bank info?

  22. angie says:

I have a 18 yr.old daughter I claimed her as a dependant because she is a student. She also works a part time job Earning 5300.00 She also filed a tax return in 2007.
Is she entitled to $300 or $600?

  23. Chuck says:

Jay, It is hard to get that question answered. I have asked the same except with H and R Block and have not gotten an answer and cant seem to find the answer anywhere else. Guess we will have to see.

  24. John says:

You will not have to pay back what you get from the stimulus plan. You WILL most likely pay tax on it as earned income in your ’08 filing!

  25. jerlene lewis says:

i didn’t file using my checking account. how can i submit this info now?

  26. Bernardlj says:

Someone talked about whether or not you’d receive a stimulus payment or not, and if I read this notice correctly, the stimulus payment is supposed to be a separate thing from your tax liability, but I also mentioned in an earlier post, talking about what the stimulus payment would be, if you had a tax liability, so who knows what will occur…We’ll just need to wait and see…I hope that it would be $600.00 for me, but I’m thinking that I’ll get $300.00, because this new computer uses Windows Vista Home Premium, and some things that I used before will no longer work, because there isn’t a Windows Vista driver available for it, like my GE webcam, and also the Agfa EPhoto CL18 digital camera for two examples, and it appears as though there isn’t going to be an updated driver for it, so the camera is no useless to me, so I’d like to buy either a different digital camera, or maybe a camcorder, if it’s one that has a built-in hard drive in it, and maybe the capability of also saving “still-frame pictures.”

  27. Bernardlj says:

Re: “Do we have to pay it back?” I’d say no as the government wants you to spend the stimulus payment, to “stimulate the economy,” but I’m wondering just what it’s actually going to do, spending millions of dollars sending these stimulus payments out? Maybe it will “back-fire” on “us” or “them.”

  28. Tina says:

whos ssn do we go by me or my husbands we filed together.

  29. Brian says:

I was eating dinner at Bob Evans’ last night and there was a woman at the table next to us who had received her stimulus check ( I saw it and it was definitely a gov check, not an anticipation loan or the like). Not sure how she received it already but apparently there are at least some checks going out.

  30. ANGIE BLACK says:

Black need to know about bargain house]
    com

  31. ANGIE BLACK says:

    Its about bargain .com

  32. ANGIE BLACK says:

why do you have all these houses thats been sold.

  33. Liza says:

I have the same question as jay!

If i did my taxes through turbo Tax, and had it direct deposited through them, does that mean the IRS has my bank info?

If we file an extention will we still get a check?

  35. clyde says:

no one has received a stimulus check yet. And no one waves around “government checks” in Bob Evans for the perusal of strangers.

  36. Anonymous says:

The government and media have made a big deal out of the fact that checks won’t be mailed out until May 16. If someone had received their tax rebate check at this point, it would have hit the news wire big time and the IRS would be explaining it in the news. The lucky recipients wouldn’t be at Bob Evans, they would be on the Today show bragging to Meredith Viera.

  37. Dave says:

I have a question. I and my wife always have to pay the money back to the IRS for the last few years, so does that mean, we will be receiving the check through mail, and not the direct deposit. Please post your thoughts.

  38. Jonni says:

If we had our tax refund put on a H&R Block debt card. Is that considered direct deposit or not.

  39. Jonni says:

My fiance claimed me as a dependent on his taxes will he get money for me.

  40. Ms. A says:

What is the address to IRS to send the form for the stimulus payment?

  41. Jody says:

I worked a little at Christmas, I am currently on SSDI. When I filed my return I did not include my SSDI should have I. And will I get a check based on the SSDI. I get 980.00 mnth for disability and earned a little over a tnousand for the temporary job at Christmas. Thanks

  42. Gina says:

My husband owes child support. Will he recieve a check or not?

  43. Anonymous says:

i receive SSD and i filed w/turbotax for free on march 23. i received a confirmation letter from turbotax on march 25 that irs had “accepted” my return. on same day i got another email from irs confirming receipt of my return and a link to an “expected date for payment” the date was for april 12. i did file for direct deposit. i live in missouri, and i told 2 of my friends also receiving benefits about turbotax free e-file. they filed next day after me, and received exact same “expected payment date” i cant find any info tho on any site to confirm this. has anyone out there had similar expirence?

  44. hello says:

Are people who filed single in 2007 and 2006 who made over 3,000 dollars and paid taxes getting a stim. check for $300 or $600? just curious

  45. dee king says:

I had to pay taxes this year and unfortunately, I paid it earlier so did not put any direct deposit info on return (electronic). However, I receive direct deposit SS check every month…does that help me get my check faster??

  46. MONICA STOKER says:

i have recently moved so i need to update my address bc it is differant frm when i filed.how do i go about doing ths?

  47. STEPH HERK says:

I curios how the stimulus check will work if you did a rapid refund through h and r block. because the money was direct deposited into their account at the time of the taxes filing. We did this before we knew of any stimulus checks and now we are wondering will our stimulus check also be direct deposited to the Hand R block account and if so how will we get this???

  48. Melissa says:

I called H & R Block and they said the stimulus payment would be mailed, not DD. :( Wish I had known about this sooner.

  49. Chuck says:

Melissa, did you have a RAL (rapid anticipation loan) or just regular direct deposit through H&R Block? Because i know if you got a RAL that the IRS will not be DD the stimulaus payment because another bank deposits your money into your account, but I was unsure about if you just use the regular return method on HR Blocks website.

“My son pays child support. His whole return went towards that. Will the rebate go to him or child support?”

Hopefully it will go towards paying off his child support, bum.
