@CreditWithdrawal: LOL. I'm gonna bet those loans weren't free. Most likely, you paid a 3% balance transfer fee.

The optoutprescreen site really works. My wife was literally getting a 0% offer from Chase EVERY FREAKIN' DAY. I was getting tired of shredding and recycling. Signing up definitely reduced the volume. We now only get credit card offers from the companies that we already do business with.

I keep receiving them because sometimes the credit companies get a little crazy and give away "Zero cost transfers, zero interest for the life of the transfers". I actually got two of these from HSBC about the same time, got them, maxed them from other accounts, and set up automatic payments of the minimum payment amount from my bank. If a company wants to loan me money for free forever, who am I to say no??

As for recycling, my son's school holds recycling events, so we just bag 'em up and every so often drop them off. Help the environment by recycling, help the school's fund drive, help the credit card companies (by receiving the offers). I'm QUITE helpful.

I signed up with optoutprescreen a few onths ago, and it worked wonders. I rarely get offers now, and the only offers I do get are from companies I am already associated with. Optoutprescreen doesn't stop those offers. It's a worthwhile service.

I have signed up for the optoutprescreen, but I'm still waiting for it to take effect. Any time that I get a credit card offer or any other unsolicited junk mail, I shred anything that has my name on it and stuff the rest back in the reply envelope and mail it back.
