In the 1930's the government raised taxes to make up for revenues (i.e. tax) shortfalls which of coursed worsened a sour situation. While nobody is discounting the severity of the situation today, the advances of our monetary policy will help ensure that we will never touch the depths seen during the Great Depression. This is a great thing for them to do and on a related note, I hope they just cut taxes so there is less money that I "SHOULD" be paying in the first place. I hope that is not the case this year. I'll not comment on them being "nice" as I have very strong opinions of the tax system in general.
