LCD Price Fixing Settlement

Broken LCDNear the end of last year, there was a settlement in the big price fixing lawsuit against some LCD panel and LCD panel component makers. Samsung, Sharp, Hitachi, and several others had agreed to pay $538 million for colluding to inflate the price of thin film transistor LCD panels, which are used in a variety of products from computer screens to televisions. Of the $538 million, $501 would be made available for partial refunds to people who purchased affected products between 1999 and 2006 in twenty four states and Washington, D.C. This is an extension of the settlement Sharp, LG and Chunghwa agreed to back in 2008.

In total, these eight companies settled: Chi Mei Innolux Corp., Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd., Epson Imaging Devices Corp., HannStar Display Corp., Hitachi Displays Ltd., Samsung Electronics Co. and Sharp Corp., and “their U.S. affiliates.” They have not made the settlement website yet but I will link to it when it is made available. Until then, you can read the motion for settlement courtesy courtesy of Engadget.
