All Catalino said to Thane over the phone (I guess that means he must have come by at some point but he did NOT call me like he said he would when he arrived) was that the roof looks "tight." So he couldn't figure out where it could possibly be leaking.

We're keeping notes of everything just in case.

Kathy - I hope things work out, it does seem pretty lacksadasical on the part of Catalino. Did he give an explanation? Keep good records of everything, you might need it for a claim or something.

Hi Jim,

I love your blog.

We're going to see if they come out on Monday and then file a complaint. I've taken lots of pictures of the progress of the damage so I feel like we can substantiate our complaints to a third party if need be.

Looking on the positive side, Catalino can now get into the attic to see exactly where the leak is... because Thane had to rip out part of the ceiling.

Kathy - I'm sorry you had a bad experience, I'd call the BBB and file a complaint. That'll get them out ASAP.

I've had a squishy spot on my roof since we bought the house 5 yrs ago and your post gave me the courage to tackle the problem finally. We didn't have a leak, but I was sure it was only a matter of time. Based on your post, and after contrasting with another roofer for whom I had a referral, I went with Kanga Roofing (better price and 2 year warranty). I thought Catalino did a good job, but the roof leaked during the first rain after the job.

I immediately called, and Maurice assured me that Catalino would be by Tues night. He did not come. Catalino called me Wed morning to say he'd be by that afternoon and did not come. I left them another message on Thursday that Hurricane Hanna was coming on Saturday and could they PLEASE fix this by Friday - no one came. They didn't even bother to make themselves look like they cared by coming to put up a tarp to prevent further water damage to our ceiling.

The water damage to the ceiling is extensive, as is the water damage to our bookshelves and carpet.

Maurice says they'll be by on Monday, but it is TOO LATE. Our ceiling, bookshelves, and carpet are RUINED. I'll be surprised if we don't have mold growing in the affected wall as well.

Wow! What a good price for a roof. When I had to have a roof put on my house I got several estimates and checked out references. The lowest price was $5300. This is also the person I liked best and one of the few who wasn't connected to a big business. The middle-of-the-road quote I got was $8000, and the highest was $10,000! I always go for local, family-owned businesses if I can, even if it may be a little more (but not much more). I'm very satisfied with my roof, and I'm looking to have more work done inside my house by the same company. The only problem was the phone book ad indicated they take credit cards (would have been paid off when due), which they no longer do. I guess, though, we're going to see fewer businesses (especially gas stations) that take credit cards.
