Ahhhh, poker, one of my true loves. My entire office will be rooting for our friend Steve Begs, who's at the final table! Go Begs!

I have a feeling that too many people think they are much better than they are at poker. They win some money and start feeling they are invincible. You ask almost any famous pro poker player, and they will all say they've gone BROKE once in their careers.

Bet carefully and know when to push!

This article combines two of my favorite things - personal finance and poker. They go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Excellent post John H!
And I'm a John H too, although I'm sure our surnames are different!
In any case, it is a very interesting way of helping people relate poker to their personal finances. Since poker can generally elicit more interest and excitement than personal financial management.
On a similar note, I am a firm believer in the value of using poker as a tool and medium to explain financial concepts.
I actually specialise in using Texas Holdem Poker as a method of teaching and learning investing.
Keep up the good work both John H and Bargaineering.

Small error in the article. At the end the author suggests to "move down to the 25x level" (from 30x). That's actually a move up; at the 30x level you need $30 in your pocket to justify a $1 purchase. At 25x you only need $25 to cover the same expense, making you more likely to splurge.

If you wanted to be more conservative for a while you'd move down to the 35X level which more tightly restricts your spending.
