Don't photocopy your wallet on a public copier. It's just a scanner plus a printer. One paper jam and your info's just there for the guy behind the desk to pick up whenever he gets around to unjamming the printer. I've seen it happen. And while I've never heard of someone hacking a copier to save the information rather than clear it once it prints, it's certainly feasible.

(I wrote more about this at the address above, but for some reason my trackback didn't work.)

That is an excellent idea. I used to manually record all the details. Adding emergency numbers or credit card customer support numbers in the photocopy will definitely help.

Another good idea is to scan them in, pdf them, and keep them on a encrypted partition of a usb drive. That way, if you carry your usb drive with you all the time, you have all your info, and it's a lot more secure than having it all on a piece of paper.

Hahah no, I was cleaning out my papers when I saw an old set of photocopies of my cards and I realized I hadn't done it in a while. That and someone emailed me a set of tips again with that one listed.

One of my friends lost her wallet Saturday night and I told myself I was going to do the same thing you recommend here. What a coincidence that you would be thinking the same thing! Jim, you didn't find a wallet Saturday night by any chance did you?
