Photoworks Online Photo Printer Review

Using the free Photoworks photo prints coupons I listed last week, I ordered some prints from my trip to Lake Tahoe a few weeks back. The prints were mostly landscape shots of lakes, mountains, and the like with a few pictures of me and my fiancée sprinkled in. Overall, I’m very impressed with the quality of the prints and how well the colors came out, I was, however, a little miffed at the slightly higher than average cost of shipping.

A caveat I would put on my thoughts about Photoworks is that I didn’t have current prints to compare them to. In my last online photo printers review I “purchased” prints of the same photos from the same camera and was able to give you an apples to apples comparison. Since that review I’ve upgraded my camera and the printer technology may have improved so it wouldn’t be fair to compare the Photoworks prints to those.

The only complaint I have with Photoworks was the cost of shipping. It cost us $3.85 to have 50 prints shipped whereas Shutterfly would’ve only charged us $1.99 and Snapfish would’ve charged us $3.45 (it’s $1.97 for 25 prints, .45 for each additional 10, so I think it’d be $3.45). Not only that, but it didn’t even seem as though any of the money they charged went into the actual packaging, it was just the photo envelope in a shipping envelope without any sort of cardboard reinforcement. When you print 50 prints, it’s thick enough to support itself but I don’t know how it would work if you only printed one print.

I didn’t try any of their specialty products or use any of the nifty features in their photo editing software, I just loaded up the pictures and printed them out. I’ve read reviews that said the editing software was pretty good but I wouldn’t know from personal experience.

I would just give Photoworks a try using some of the coupons on the other page because 50 prints for $3.85 means you’re getting each print at under 8 cents each, cheaper than buying bulk anywhere else.
