Perhaps I am one of the lucky few, but I love ATT wireless. I signed up with them again in June for another 1yr contract thru my work's discount plan. I got 600 more minutes for cheaper than what I was paying the previous year!!! I believe only current ATT wireless customers can re-up with them, new customers may have to go with Cingular. I've never had a problem with them and they are very helpful when I call Customer Service...

If you don't spend that much time on your cell and don't mind carting around a giant old phone, Tracfone is a pretty good choice. Probably not the best bet if you have a long commute, but it works for me.

2-year contracts are bad. Very bad. I wish I stuck to my 1-year contract only guns last time around, but I needed a new phone immediately for work and made rash decision.

My first cell phone was over $1000 and was bolted to the transmission tunnel of my car (the transceiver was in the trunk). My, how things do change!

Having just got a new phone a month ago… I can give you some pointers.

First, don't trust the phone dimensions and weights listed on Amazon.com. I check a few phone manufacturs sites, and Amazon was not listing the correct numbers. www.phonescoop.com was a good source for phone info.

With the cingular number portability problem, I pretty much decided I didn't want to take that chance.

I ended up sticking with verizon, who I've been with since they were Bell Atlantic Mobile over 7 years ago. I didn't get any fatty rebates, but my phone was free, so that was good enough for me. The phone I got was the Motorola E815, which is an updated version of the V710 that you have listed on your blog article.
