Second Economic Stimulus Check: Obama’s Economic Plan

The Make Work Pay tax credit will put $400 ($800 for couples) into your pocket and was passed in the recovery and reinvestment plan.
1/15: The Committee on Appropriations just released the an executive summery of the details of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.
Update 10/21: Bernanke recently endorsed a stimulus package and new life has been given to the prospects of a second stimulus package.
Update: Looks like there’s been more movement on another stimulus check. I wouldn’t hold my breath but it’s a step past campaign fodder.
The ink hasn’t even dried on the first economic stimulus checks mailed out last month and this month and there’s already talk of another stimulus package that would include a second stimulus check, tax breaks for the middle class and seniors, as well as debt relief for students. It’s the first economic salvo fired by Democratic Presidential presumptive nominee Barack Obama this week in a speech at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds [full text of that speech]. In his speech, he briefly discussed long term goals but focused on the short term ones, including a second economic stimulus check.
Second Stimulus Check: $50 Billion
The idea of a second economic stimulus check (who can say no to another stimulus check?)is obviously what most people latched onto (though there were no details in the speech itself) and it was the first thing he mentioned in the short term plan.
That’s why I’ve called for another round of fiscal stimulus, an immediate $50 billion to help those who’ve been hit hardest by this economic downturn – Americans who have lost their jobs, their homes, and are facing rising costs and cutbacks in state and local services like education and health care. We need to expand unemployment benefits and extend them for those who can’t find another job right away – especially since the long-term unemployment rate is nearly twice as high as it was during the last recession. And we must help the millions of homeowners who are facing foreclosure through no fault of their own. [Page 3 of speech]
The other things mentioned in that piece is a 13-week (or more) extension to unemployment benefits, a $10 billion Foreclosure Prevention Fund (which would include a credit of 10% of their mortgage interest payment every year), as well as changes to the mortgage industry to include a Home Score system that helps consumers compare mortgage offers and assess payback ability.
Middle Class & Senior Tax Relief
Page 5 goes into, after railing on McCain, how he’ll slash of corporate tax breaks, close tax loopholes, and begin windfall taxing oil companies to help pay for middle class tax cuts. $1,000 of relief for approximately 95% of workers and families, paid for by the windfall profits of Exxon Mobil. His plan also called for the elimination of income taxes for retirees that earn less than $50,000 a year and raising the Social Security tax cap, without changing the retirement age or privatizing Social Security.
There are several more subjects in the speech, such as a Credit Card Bill of Rights and revamping bankruptcy laws, but we’ll have to wait until next week for details on some of the more long term economic plans. Stay tuned…

OK now I am not saying I voted for him but Obama does have some good plans for taxes and stuff IF HE FOLLOWS THROUGH I do think as a family of 3 I have one son and husband and we after taxes dont make 30,000 a yr! We are not even middle class now to me someone who has NEVER had over 30 thou a yr 250,000 sounds like a heck of a lot of money and if you dont have any money when u make that much u got problems! Now if I understood correctly he was going to raise taxes for people that make 250,000 a yr and lower us lower class people”s” taxes I am sorry if you are a lil greedy but I personally think that is very fair!!! even if he didnt raise our taxes whats it gonna hurt to take out a little more taxes when your rich? And I personally think stimulas check is a great idea before Christmas otherwise my son wont get much now I know you that make plenty of money thinkn its a bad idea WELL GOOD SEND IT BACK DONT KEEP IT I know when I was younger I paid in ALOT ON TAXES and didnt get anything back cause I lived with my parents to me that money is pretty much money I paid in and never got back but if your gonna gripe about the stimulas check like I said dont keep it cause if you do your being very contradicting and they can use it for someone else who needs it or whatever!

How does the bible come into this discussion? I don’t think you know what i mean. If our economy collapses and our dollar is worth zilch how are we gonna defend this country? with sticks and stones? $600 would be great to have, that’s a given. It would not do a thing to the economy. It would be a waste tax payer’s money. If the government really wants to help jump start the economy what they need to do is stop the fighting in so many different countries. Given, we do need to fight the war on terror, but why did we go to Iraq? Weren’t they in Afgan?
In my humble opinion it was the rising price of gas and the global war on terror that hit the U.S. economy. Bush use to run an oil rig company, what happened to it?…bankrupt. Exactly where the US economy is going. The U.S needs help, and WE need it FAST!
Well, since everyone is going on about this and that, I’d like to say whats on my mind also. Since I can’t afford Theropy…LOL.
For one, I am not a “smart” person by no means…… I don’t have a degree in anything. I could never afford to go to college or anything. I have been married for 16 years, and we have worked HARD for everything that we have.
We have set back for years and watched MANY people draw welfare and food stamps, and keep popping out one kid after another. That they can’t afford, and what does our Gov. do….. They give them more money a month, more food stamps a month, housing, child care, and pay for them to go to college.(the few that actually do decide that they want a better life and to go off the “Draw”) While we don’t have kids because we can’t afford them, yet when we struggle, we can’t get any help at all.
Even if I could get college paid for, I still couldn’t afford to go, as it takes both of us working full time just to make ends meet. I don’t see the Gov. paying me to live month after month and paying for college for me. Maybe I should pop out three or four kids. LOL. (No really, I wouldn’t do that…… I think that one should have enough sense to not have kids, if they can’t afford to take care of them with pride, and on their own.
While would I have kids, and live off the system, just to teach my kids how to be lazy, have no self esteem, and teach them to live off the system too. I wouldn’t. I would want better for my kids then that.
So, another $600.00 for us would be like winning the lottery at this point.
Does it actually help the economy long term…… Who knows. All I know is that it would really help us out alot right now. It would help us free up some money so that we could go buy something extra here and there. Which does help the economy.
I could go on for hours about illegal people here, and how it pisses me off that the Gov. isn’t taking care of the problem, when I can’t get a job making more than min. wage right now, and they get things handed to them. And I know that they are handed more things than welfare people.
ANd how, I can’t afford to get a tooth worked on because I don’t have the money to do so, yet sorry ass welfare people can rush to the emergency room because they have a headache.
And how I get no help when I need it just because I don’t have kids coming out my ass.
And then theres the seniors that get screwed everytime they turn around.
Don’t even get me started on that. When the elders have to choose between food and Medication As the lazy Ass people get everything handed to them, then the Gov. needs to get their heads out of their Asses , and they need to be put in our living situations for about 6 months and then return to their position and make the right changes for the people that are now old, and that worked so hard to make America what is was (Before BUSH) and for the middle class that are loosing everything, and paying for everyone else to set back and be lazy worthless Americans.
They need to start helping the ones that keep America running through paying taxes and buying shit, instead of shelling out tons of money a month for the lazy people.

These are just my thoughts on some things. I maynot be politically correct, I may not have spelled things right, I may get bashed for even typing all of this. But I know atleast 100 people personally that feel the same way. I do love my country. I am very glad to be an American. I just don’t like how things are running right now, and I am very mad about it all.
And I think personally that the poeple in charge of making the decissions for the American people, shouldn’t have the right to set in those seats and do so, if they are only in it for themselves. I think that they should be sent to prison for accepting money to go a certain way…i.e. Selling us out for money.
I think that lobbist should have NEVER been allowed in and I think that they should put strong penalties in place for ANYONE caught accepting money to get something passed.
Their just greedy people, padding their own pockets even when knowing what they are doing to their fellow Americans.
Its not like they don’t already get paid GREAT wages. I bet they can afford to go to the doctor or dentist when needed. ANd they have a great retirement plan. Any thing else should be handled with strict punishment for selling out their own people……..Off with their heads!!!!!!!

I can’t believe that people are going on about buying Christmas gifts……
Yes a few little things for the kids is good, but you don’t have to go wild with it or anything else.
We haven’t been able to “do” Chrsitmas for a few years now. Yes, its sad, but crap, I would rather have Heat in the house then to spend money on a gift that you can’t afford. Try something new . Make the Holiday about Christ and family time instead of toys.
When I can’t afford to heat my house, or fill my frig, I am sure not going to go out and spend the stim check on toys.
Come on people are you going to buy some toys with the money, or pay off a bill so that you have that monthly cost GONE ? ANd alittle extra in your pocket every month because of it.
Your kids maybe alittle sad that they didn’t get a room full of toys, but believe me, it isn’t going to kill them. And when they get older and have a family of their own, and come on hard times, they will remember back and completely understand why they didn’t get a room full of toys.
Food, heat, lights, clothing, is way more important than toys.
Maybe you should have started out teaching your kids that giving is better than receiving. And the whole day could have went to helping feed the homeless instead of unwrapping toys that they really don’t need.
So you haven’t been able to save any money back for gifts, Well, my bills are getting paid monthly by the grace of God, I don’t have ANY extra money. We eat very cheap simple food, because that is all that we can afford. Our heat is cut down to a min. so that we don’t end up with too high of a bill. My car has needed fixed for 8 months know, and we still don’t have even $50 saved to get it fixed. I sure wouldn’t go out and spend the money on gifts other than one small gift each.
Just my opinion again.

Before I get bashed about it, or someone gets mad about it…
I also have NO problem with people on welfare and food stamps that have just came into hard times, and need the help for awhile. OR that also have jobs (full time) . I do agree with someone above…. The Gov. SHOULD drug test the people of welfare and food stamps. And if they fall…. Their kids should be taken away from them at that moment, and they shouldn’t get assistance anymore. That alone would cut the number of people living on it BIG TIME.
I have a niece 23 years old that has 4 YES I SAID 4, kids. She lives on the system. She only works for a month or so, and then quits. SO that she can keep drawing. She is one of the biggest drug addicts I know.
She had 3 of her kids taken from her because of the drugs, and then had a 4th kid, which she has not had taken from her. There is NO way that she would pass a drug test. She parties as much as she can. Do you think that she is taking care of her kid the right way, when all she does is parties? This is what my tax dollars goes for, and yours too. Her welfare check, goes to drugs. How wrong the system is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I completely understand that people fall on hard times, and totally believe that those are the people that it was made to help. But, it was made for Temp. use…… Not to make a career out of it. (for those that do so)
My problem is when “the Lazy people” make a career out of it.
Those are the people that I list as “Lazy”. Not the ones that just need the extra help, or that are just Temp. using it because of their current need.
Heck, I would love some extra help right now myself… Too bad I make Too much money to get any help, although not enough money to make all ends meet. Its that falling through the cracks thing in our system again.
And about the JOBS post that Americans wouldn’t do those jobs….

Where I work, People are coming in by the loads daily and calling daily asking for a job….. A MIN. WAGE JOB !!!!!!!!!!!
They just need some kind of money coming in, and are more than willing to work for Min. wage.
I use to live in Elkhart IN. where jobs use to be a dime a dozen……. Now, you can’t get a job because all the Mexicans (illegals) have them. The place is going to hell in a hand bag.
Now I live in KY. and there are no more jobs here either. What is it going to take to get people to see that the immigrant (?) problem is WAY out of hand, and the AMerican people need to get something done about it, before there is another Civil War, between the rightful Americans, and the Illegals here, just so that we can have our jobs back!
We all may have to move to Mexico before too long just to get a job, since their all coming here and our jobs are going out of our country. Hee hee.
A point that people are willing to work for low pay……..
A factory took in apps, that isn’t even open yet. ( they wouldn’t even be open for 4 months) They said they would pay $9.00 an hour for line leaders…..and less for production workers.
They were to hire 250 people.
Do you know how many Apps. they got in? Over 1500 in 1 day. There was a line of people waiting for HOURS just to put in an Application. Do you not think that if there were someone standing there saying, I’ll give you a job in construction or in the fields picking stuff, for $5.00 an hour that those people would have said no. Are you kidding me, they would have said when can I start. By the way, I know alot of people in Construction and even the lowest paid person makes more than $6.55 an hour. ANd in the fields picking things…. Its not an easy job…. I know people that have done it to support their families, they work hard… You have to be able to pick so much a day….. But the pay isn’t as low as one would think if you do your quota for the day.
Stimulus checks would best be spent on American made products if those are gifts clothes food….but unless you buy wood or wood by products for heat then heating your house with kero would not do much to stimulate the economy since kero comes from oil…..I.E.-middle eastern or south american countries….and my guess is again stimulus check would be to stimulate the economy…….OUR AMERICAN ECONOMY…..and if you can’t afford to heat your house get a better job……find ways to conserve heat or switch the type of heating system you use during summer months instead of going to the beach or bbq…..be the ant not the grasshopper

To the one that made a comment above about not being able to afford toys that even if you got a stimulus you would pay bills and just surround them with family for the holidays. I grew up poverished, christmas is a special day were every child looks forward for that special toy he or she wanted, i mean isn’t that why santa claus is our icon when we were kids? the one special time of that year when every kid gets to write santa a letter and hope for that he will give them that. We all grew up with our past and try to make things better for our kids and try to give them a better upbringing than we had when we were kids so im sorry, i do not think the way you do and yes i do pay my bills before hand and i also toss things around to make sure that they get that one special toy that they have ever wanted. I feel bad for every kid in the world that isn’t able to have this. I wish i could be a super hero santa and could make this happen,.. In regards to a stimulus check, it would be nice bcoz it will make the holidays a bit more bareable, without it.. it would make things a bit more harder but not impossible. Don’t be a grinch, you always have the next month and the next that you can make up alittle bit of it. Santa plays an important role in our kids lives, believe and work hard and you shall be rewarded in life. No one ever said you had to fill this tree with a gazillion things underneath, Just that one thing they most ever wanted has its miracles. I am sure when u grew up and if at all you weren’t able to have that special toy or any at all, you thought deep in your mind that you were a failure or maybe santa forgot you or you try to think of something as to why santa never stopped at your house. It’s not a good feeling! The Evolution of Santa Claus

I was a welfare recipient and it helped me. So don’t go saying EVERYONE on welfare should be drug tested and we pop babies. I had a child ‘95,’96, and ‘97 and I love them dearly and I would change what I did if given the choice to replay my past. Now there are some that do abuse the system but everyone does not meaning we should not be sterotyped. What I think should happen is that individuals should be given a time frame to get back on track. If the persons is not disabled, no, they should not live on it just because they can. They should be held accountable for their actions and made to improve their status by one year. I used it as a stepping stone. I have now graduated college and I was glad help was available for me. I married the father of my children whom is a E-8 in the army. It is nosense for everyone to point fingers. Instead of making assumptions about Obama, maybe individuals that have all the answers should run for president next time. No one man can please everyone, we just have to pray for the best. He is an intelligient man that surrounds himself with the right influential people(some dem. and rep.). He will make the right decisions and yes, a second check would be good. My husband and I make good money but we won’t turn down a check. Those of you that won’t find it useful, you can sign it over to me. I thank all of you in advance.
If they would only pass the fair tax we wouldn’t have to worry about stimulus checks, tax breaks or anything else the economy would boom with companys comming back to the united states, illegals and drug dealers would all have to pay taxes when they make there purchases.

They come from people who are blessed by God to have one. Do NOT complain about people who have babies and are asking for wellfare. That money they recieve is for their children. What they choose to spend that money on is on them.

i’ve been through this whole line of comments and some people are for the 2nd stimulus payment and some aren’t. so i’m adding my comments from the peanut gallery, i’m 26 have 2 small children my husband is disabled and can’t work for very long when he can get work, i only get a little over a thousand dollars a month working for the state and we’re stuck living in my father-in-laws house ’cause we can’t afford to get a house either renting or buying. another stimulus check would help us greatly.

You have a good question. The reason we are not collecting money from countries that owe us is because they can’t. About 30 to 40 % of our debt is owed to foreign countries. Every time the US needs money, they create bonds and they sell those bonds to companies and/or foreign countries.
With all that being said when you use up your budget financing a war or other activities more bonds are created thus having insufficient funds to pay down the deficit and increasing it instead. The U.S.’s deficit great exceeds all moneys owed to the U.S. So even if they did all decide to pay, it would not even come close to the trillions the U.S. owes.

My dad worked as many hours as he could and we still had plenty of times when there was nothing to eat. To assume that the poor are all just lazy is ignorant. It is VERY hard to get to the top, or even the middle,without any advantages. And even harder if you find yourself to be unlucky,to be a single parent, or a pregnant teenager. Some people don’t have the advantage of a buffer when something goes wrong.
Yes,there should be limits.The government should not have to support you and your offspring for the rest of your lives.

I don’t remember who said that the unemployed were lazy, but just so everyone knows, I was in the military for 11 months, injured in Iraq and discharged. My girlfriend is on disability and attending school. All I do with my time during the day, and I mean ALL is look for a job. And sometimes I’ll be on foot due to lack of gas but I’m still out looking. So I don’t appreciate being called lazy.

I would like to know if there are certain requirements to recieving debt relief for student loans. I mean the last time the checks were sent out I didnt even recieve one and the one my mom got was just 300.00 which didn’t even put a dent in our bills it was more like a scratch. I really hope the economy improves and more jobs become available. I mean its crazy to see how many people are suffering these days while “celebrities” are still living it up lavishly and movies are still being made and cds sold. My husband has worked with many Mexicans illegal & legal. They were paid the same wages as he and everyone else. So there may be some working cheap but not as many as you may think! And there are plenty of lazy ones. My husband would be put in charge when the boss was away and a few of them tried to gang up on him, threatened him and also stole his jack and spare tire out of his truck. The reason for this was because he is a hard worker and they told him he made them look bad when he put out the better work in less time. Many of them are young and disrespectful We are in our mid 40’s, Ifor one work as a cook in a restaurant. I work just as hard and in most cases harder than alot of people half my age. So say what you want about how great immigrants are but until you have worked with them U DON’T KNOW!!!! They can all go home as far as we are concerned. We know of one who saved some of his money, borrowed a trailer & $1500.00 from his boss -went back to Mexico, bought a business and never returned the trailer or repaid the 1500.00!!! So I personally don’t think they are a great assest to our country!!! I’m sure they are like any other race some good some bad because I actually have one in my family wonderful person!! This person was born an american citizen. And again awonderful person!!! But the illegals and the ones with green cards could atleast be nice and respectful while in another country taking jobs THAT YES some of us hard working Americans are doing and willing to do! And by the way my hard workin husband hasn’t had work for 4 out of the last 6 weeks! And my hours have been cut along with everyone else at work! But he’s out there every day trying to find work, yard work, cleaning gutters, putiing in applications. There,s nothing out there in our region!
My husband and I are over 50 . Both of us have worked in the past, but now we have health issues that keep us from working and we have to rely on SSI for income now which is just a little over $600 per month. We sure could use the money from a stimulus check but people who get SSi aren’t eligible. I think everyone should get these checks. The goverment has bailed out banks and now auto makers so why not the low income and poor people of America.

Where is the line for free tuition? Evidently, you haven’t done your homework. I am a minority, and I paid for school. I’ve never been on welfare, smoked crack or been on welfare. However, I have enjoyed a beer while sitting on my couch in front of my big screen, which I paid for. Also, people don’t breed, they give birth. I work hard for mines everyday. The rich should be taxed according to what they make. I am so what makes them so different? What makes a rich person exempt from paying their fair share? If I have to pay, why shouldn’t they? Just because they are rich? The fact of the matter is the rich make their money off of everyday hardworking people. Hi this is the first time I have been on this site and some have good opions while others well….everyone has them. The stimulas check was good and another would be nice but.. we cant just expect one. One person said it is all about the middle class and helping them well…we work as hard as the upper and lower class and we are the ones taking the rap if we hit a hard spot we cant get gov. help because we have a 401k or a newer car. Some getting gov. assistance eat better then we do and get to pay their bills and stay at home and make sure their house stays clean, I come home after work and cook and clean. The upper class dont have to worry about hoping they can afford food after we have gas in the car for work next week. We have been smart and saw a few years back that things where getting rough and started planning ahead, trying to pay off bills, stocking up food, and buying only what is needed, and thank god we did, times are only getting harder and people need to stop and realize it and do something about it now before it gets worse, it can be done, I am proof.

Another stimulus check wil not boost the economy. Though I would not complain with the extra cash….who would. It doesnt help us to get 600. What they should have done instead of giving giving giving to the multi billion dollar banks and companies to free up credit when none of the amercian people are spending anyway is take that 700 billion and give it to the people. Well yes another check would greatly help us all. And for the ones who believe that all people on warefare are lazy people who wont get off their behinds you need to think twice. I am on warefare but i also work and the only reason I am is because is hard to raise and support 4 small children by myself and before you think it now I am not a ho. My darling husband decided that he would run off and be single and get away with not paying child support and yes I am white and so is he. For many years, or rather many centuries, this country has scene its share of presidents. I think each and every president has gone into office with the intentions of making a difference and making changes. There have been changes for the good and there have been changes for the bad(the economy!). The stimulus check is something that would be appreciated, but why do we need another one? The first stimulus check that was given to us was used as something to boost the economy. I guess it didn’t do much, since we’re receiving another one. Is this stimulus check going to work? I really would like to see what Obama is going to do to improve this economy since past presidents jacked it up.

the welfare system is a good way for people to get back on their feet but too many abuse it. im not saying that everyone on welfare is lazy but most are. if you have a legit reason to be on welfare than im more than happy to contribute but its these leeches of society who feel that welfare is owed to them. its disgusting to think of these people who contnue to have children that they cant support. if you couldnt afford 2 why the hell would you have a third? but this contunes to happen because people know that the government will continue to support them, or should i say, the tax payers will continue to support them. again, im not saying that welfare or everyone on it is bad, if you have a job and still need some help thats fine, you are making an effort to better your situation but if you just sit at home and pop out babies then you need to be cut off.

There are many different subjects I see that are mentioned here. I agree with one person’s opinion, if they gave back to the citizens/tax payers what they used for the high corp bailouts we could have bailed ourselves out. Billions of dollars broken down to every tax paying citizen, and I mean legal CITIZEN, we could buy our own vehicles which would stimulate the automobile industry and the smae for housing. We could pay off ou homes and that would put money back in to the hands of the banks, instead of bailing out the banks,and we’re left holding nothing. We could have paid of many things, put ourselves into better financial positions and then be the Americans that we are, we would turn around and spend money that we could now afford to do so. Bailing out big companies who care nothing for us or do nothing for us was not the solution. but hey, I’m a believer that until the government has to live as we do, pay for thier medical benefits, pay into the social security system and prepare to live off of it later nothing will change. Every congressman, senator, president etc… receives free helth care benefits, permanent pensions (as do thier spouses) hell, even the president gets free postage stamps for life! They don’t live on the same playing field as we do. Live on $50,000.00 dollars a year? I’d love it, I make (after 26 years in a hospital and a college education – $35,000.00 a year. I’d love to sit down with any polition and discuss the word indigent and charity… I run these prorams and I see the people that have to live on nothing and no medical benefits. Any ways, my point is quit giving at the top, give back to the people. Whatever happened to no taxation without representation? Oh yeah, as soon as those wars were won the american people were immediatley taxed on other items. Depending on where you live, it’s tax tax tax. Federal tax, state tax, county tax, school tax, property tax, car tax… gas, food you name it and the AMerican people are taxed beyond belief. Sorry so long winded.

Hi, first time here. I think there’s something most wealthy don’t realize. If everyone in this country were rich, the country wouldn’t run! I and my family live poverty level even though I retired from my job about 8 years ago because of illness. I receive no retirement income. My husband will be able to retire in another 4 years with a small retirement income. We raised a large family on very little though we both worked. I get so tired sometimes of hearing how no one needs to be poor. That people are poor because of not having enough education or other ’statistical’ nonsense. If you have those who are wealthy, you WILL have those who are poor. Who would run the grocery stores, gas stations, laundry mats, car lubes, etc? Who would work cleaning up in hospitals, schools and other buildings. Who would be waitresses, cab drivers, bus drivers, etc. Not only our country, but our world runs on the backs of those who make very little while many of the wealthy put them down and come up with reasons why they shoulda been, coulda been rich. I didn’t vote for Obama but not for the reasons most would think. Mine are moral alone! However, since He is our president and willing to give money to those who are already wealthy and haven’t done right by the people with the money they’ve been instrusted with, I do believe we, the average Americans, and we, those of us who struggle every day just to keep food on the table, should be the ones to receive the hard, earned money we’ve been payng out in taxes to those who don’t care what they do with that money.
I would love to have a little time without so much worry about how to pay a bill or to buy a little better food. Even if it’s just for a short time, it would be so nice to have the little space of relief after all these years. The last stimulus package through Bush was just enough to pay a couple of past due bills, which I was very greatful for. I’m hoping this one is enough to pay a bill or two and still be able to eat well for a couple of weeks.
But that’s just my wish. I realize, as does every hard working person that is still living at poverty level, that life is hard and there aren’t any earthly people or things that are going to make it any better. This is life in the real world.
I’m praying too that our country gets the chance to remain until we do get back on our feet. If we let our security laps even one bit, we are in great danger of those in our world who would love to see us blown to bits. Then, I suppose there would be no rich or poor or middle class and no stimulus package that would ever make a difference.
I’m just praying that in the years to come, we don’t move any further downward than we are right now, today. I will be happy to live just as I’ve always lived, in peace and security even without money in my mail. God help us all!
God Bless You. I know about living at poverty level. I am a 63 yr. olddisabled sr. forced to retire at age 33 due to a massive stroke, which left me disabled. My husband left, so I have been struggling to have a roof over my head and food on the table. My faith in the Good Lord is the only thing that gets me through each day. I also live in peace and security with no money in the mail.
I do have faith and I believe in my country, but I also have eyes and ears and it is my responsiblity as well as every other citizen to speak up and call it like it is. This is our American right to speak up. Government needs to level the playing field a little, live by the same rules we live by, insurances, pays, benefits, social security system, medicare…until our government lives by these rules as we do nothing will change. They can’t see the needs of the every day average American.
I was home sick the day of the inauguration, I couldn’t believe the money that must have been spent on 7(?) balls? Or when they were introducing the political figures, this is the assistant to …. and the sargent of arms… and the assistant to the assistant to the congressman… the list went on. I guess these people need jobs as well, but really, how much do they make in the government world that our tax money is paying for? Greedneeds to stop at the top. Answer thier own phones once in a while, it would be good for them to speak to a real American once in awhile. As far as the stimulus check, anything is better than nothing, I live in Florida and from May – Oct an average home electric bill runs 2-$350.00 a month. A stimulus check might help pay for 2 months if I’m lucky.That’s not running the a/c real cold,that’s keeping it around 80 degrees. In my job, I’m watching people being diagnosed with cancer and other conditions, losing their jobs, no food, most of the food banks are empty and pleading for donations. the list goes on, we need to help our own before we consider anyone else. The future is scarey and uncertain for many. God Bless us all and watch over each and every person, we’re going to need it.

Thanks Bigs! I don’t think people realzie that we’re not getting a big check in the mail, it’s a tiny disperment in our weekly checks that ends up about 15-20 dollars every two weeks. So if you’re sitting home wondering how you’re going to spend the check when it comes, forget it. It’s money that is being stimulated back into our own paychecks, that’s the tax break.
Talk about a let down with the stimulus check. I almost had to laugh when I heard cause it sure does no good to cry about it. lol. I think I will spend the extra 8.00 or so each week on the increase that my grocery bill, insurance, etc is bound to have through this next year. I am still for Obama and believe that we have a chance though. I do not know after hearing about the stimulus check if it was such a good idea though. We will see.
