Your Take: Share Your Tax Story, Win Copy of TurboTax Premier

TurboTaxIt’s been a while since we’ve done a giveaway and the fine folks at Turbotax were kind enough to host a local event a few back in Washington D.C. They were showcasing Snaptax, they’re expanded mobile application that lets you take a photo of your W-2 and import it into TurboTax. I remember when they debuted the service a couple years ago, at the time only for California, and I was amazed at its accuracy (it’s just OCR’ing a relatively standard form but it’s still nifty, no one else is doing it!). They’ve expanded it so that you can now prepare your taxes, added a native iPad application (you aren’t looking at a web browser) that also let’s you prepare your taxes, and should your situation be more complicated, integrates with the online version. I think the crucial difference is that TurboTax has always been an online and software package first and so all of their advancements have been in that realm. Their competitors, those with software packages, almost see the package as an afterthought to their higher margin walk-in office services and so they’re always behind. (as an added bonus, all the public relations folks I’ve met and worked over the years have been awesome)

So, they gave me a few TurboTax gift cards to give away and they give you the ability to file one free federal and state preparation, with e-file, using TurboTax Premier Online (retail value is $74.95). The Premier version is one step up from Deluxe and it gives you the ability to handle investments and rental property. I believe it converts down (meaning you can use it for Deluxe). What you’ll get is just the code (and a photo of the back of the card, in case I mis-type it) and you can do with it what you will.

Here’s how you can win one of the three codes:

  • You get one entry for sharing your favorite tax story in the comments below.
  • You get one entry each for sharing it on various social media like recommending this post on Facebook and/or Tweeting it (include @bargainr please!). If you do this, please add the link to your comment below or email me so I can track it.
  • You get one entry for liking us on Facebook – just say you did so in your comment and I’ll check for your name
  • You get five entries if you link back to the contest from your blog. (again, add a link to the comment or email me)

Contest will end at noon on March 9th, 2012. Void where prohibited.

This contest has ended, congratulations to Andrea, Erin, and Justin for winning!

Good luck!

What a great idea. I already “Like” Bargaineering.com I have recommended it on my facebook page, and I was on this page when I recommended it so it should be referenced.

Last year I used Turbo Tax to do my taxes and it kept saying that I owed $. I was sure since I had a start-up company with 0 income from it, that I would at least break even. So I bit the bullet and paid to have my taxes done, the professional tax preparer save me $3.00 and charged me $250.00. I will never do that again. It’s TurboTax for me!

  3. Andrea says:

Shared it with my friends on Facebook! Good luck everyone :)

Thanks for the giveaway offer. I have never used Turbo Tax but with all the time I spend on the internet. I have never heard anything bad said about Turbo Tax. I would like to win this copy. I have not done my taxs this year and it sure would help.

I knew a guy who attempted to claim the cockroaches in his apt as livestock ! Go figure .

I’ve already filed, so I don’t need the prize. One of my favorite stories, and there is an IRS letter to this effect, was a stripper that was allowed to deduct her implants. She was able to show that her tips went up after the surgery, and the IRS ruled it was a legitimate business deduction.

Since I did not file my taxes yet, it would be great to win Turbo Tax software. I used another tax software last year. Thanks for the chance of winning.

  10. John Young says:

Used TurboTax for years. Really like it but don’t like paying to file the state return. Great product.

  11. Justin Beard says:

My favorite tax story is the one where the income tax is abolished, since it is unconstitutional. This story takes place in the future. Until then, I figure Turbo Tax is the best option out there to do my taxes like a good boy and prevent the government from illegally seizing my house.

One year I had to teach my accountant how to properly file for ESPP shares!

It would be great to win Turbo Tax software. I have used Turbo Tax many times over. I had converted to another software but always returned to Turbo Tax as it was simpler and more complete than any of the others.

Count me in! I don’t really have a favorite tax story but just last night my brother in law told me something. When he was 18, he had 3 different part time jobs. When it was time to file taxes, he had no idea what to do so he prepared 3 different tax returns and submitted them all at once. Yikes!

  17. Emma says:

Thanks for the opportunity! I liked Bargaineering on Facebook.

  18. Erin says:

My favorite tax story has to be my 2010 state return. I had the pleasure of living and working in 2 different states during the calendar year, so I assumed my federal returns would be a little tricker than usual. But low and behold I found out quickly that Indiana had incredibly complex and confusing state tax returns! I had fill in 8 additional schedules just to do a 1040a. The schedules collected multiple taxs to pay as well as tax breaks. I pride myself in the ability to do math well and decipher complex documents and forms… But it is completely worth the $35 for turbo tax to do it for me!

I DO NOT HAVE A BIG STORY AS I DO IT MYSELF.

ONCE I TOOK MY RETURN TO A CPA FRIEND OF MINE AND ASKED HIM TO TKE A LOOK AT IT WITH THE HOPE THAT HE MAY COME UP TO TELL ME SOMETHING EXCITING.

HE TOOK A QUICK LOOK AT IT AND TOLD ME IT LOOKS FINE.

I ASKED HIM: SHOULD I PAY ANYTHING TO YOU? HE SAID: GIVE ME $15! I WAS SURPRISED AND SHOCKED. BUT PAID HIM BY CHECK!

My favorite tax story is just not owing any penalties yet.
    I liked Bargaineering on facebook.

  23. Manny says:

Yes always pay but this year I did it my self for next years to come I will use turbo tax.

  24. daenyll says:

turned to turbo tax in college after my mom did them one year for me and decided it’d be easier to forge my name and send them in than send the forms to me to sign and then turn in.
