Gary,

That's a very scary story. I'm a sysadmin, and work in sort of a crucible situation as well, so I can definitely identify with your story. I honestly can't believe that the company you worked for would take that stance with you, after what you went through, and all of it for them. Unbelievable.

I wanted you to know that I wrote a short blog entry today, and featured links to your story, so that other people will see that they're not alone in suffering like this. Employers who take advantage of workers who are willing to "go the extra yard" and "be a team player" at the expense of their own health shouldn't get a free ride.

Here's my blog entry:
http://standalone-sysadmin.blogspot.com/2008/08/burnout-and-toll-it-takes.html

Thanks for sharing this. I know that it's going to hit close to the mark on a lot of people, and I wanted you to know that I appreciate what you went through.

Wow...pretty scary. I would love to hear more about your overall health when this happened. I'm 26 years old and a total workaholic (writing this at 5:30am from my office), but I absolutely love my work. I also work out every day and eat more healthy every day, so I'm hoping that the fact that I work a lot of hours doesn't destroy my health.
