If you’ve been thinking about opening a checking account at Chase, then they’ve announced a new checking account promotion that is perfect for you. How about $100 to open a checking account with at least $100 in new money to Chase, 5+ debit card transactions in 60 days (or a direct deposit), and keep that account open for 6 months. Then a cool hundred is deposited into your account 10 days after meeting those requirements. This is one of the few promotions that doesn’t require a direct deposit, which is pretty rare.

BB&T Bank, which stands for Branch Banking and Trust, is running a $100 checking account promotion where you get $100 for opening a BB&T Free checking account and then setting up a Direct Deposit or making 3 online bill payments. Your $100 bonus is deposited within 4 weeks of satisfying one of the conditions. The BB&T Free checking account has no minimum balance requirement though the minimum opening deposit is $50. There are no maintenance fees.

If you’re looking for a new checking account and live in DC, DE, FL, IN, KY, MD, NJ, OH, PA or VA, they are running a $100 promotion for new PNC personal checking accounts. The requirements are slightly higher than your average checking account bonus promotion but not onerus. You need to open a qualifying checking account, setup a direct deposit, and make ten check card purchases with your new PNC Bank Visa check card. Your account will be credited with the $100 within 60 days of the direct deposit and ten purchases. The promotion ends April 30th, 2010 and you need to satisfy the conditions by June 30th, 2010.

PNC offers a free checking account with no minimum balance requirement, though your initial deposit must be $25 or more, and no monthly service charge plus they reimburse non-PNC Bank ATM fees if you have an average monthly balance over $2,000. You can see the schedule of fees here. Also, if you’re curious about deposit rates, they’re not great. At the moment, PNC’s deposit rates on certificates of deposit are below the nationally available best CD rates available.

Most promotions of this type are time based, not check card use based, which makes this promotion somewhat “easier.” More details are available on this promotion page.

My friend Rachel told me about Suze Orman’s Save Yourself promotion with TD Ameritrade. Open a non-retirement Save Yourself account at TD Ameritrade, make 12 consecutive monthly deposits of $100+, don’t touch the money, and TD Ameritrade will give you $100. The Save Yourself account is essentially a high-yield money market deposit account with a 0.50% APY and FDIC insured as the funds are held at TD Bank USA. It’s a bank account, not a brokerage trading account.

Who is eligible for a business card? Anyone can be a sole proprietorship without filling out any additional paperwork.
