Capital One Bank $50 InterestPlus Online Savings Promotion

Capital One is offering a $50 bonus when you open an InterestPlus Online Savings account using the promotion code BANK223DF with at least $10,000 by January 15th, 2012. Capital One’s online savings bank offers competitive rates compared to other online savings accounts, gives you a 10% quarterly bonus on your interest, and has no fees.

Here is some of the legalese:

You will receive a $50 bonus if you open a Capital One Bank InterestPlus Online Savings (IPOS) account online only, enter the offer code at the time of account opening, and have $10,000 or more on deposit on 1/15/2012. This account must be your first account with Capital One Bank. The deposit will be deposited into your account 4-8 weeks after 1/15/2012 and the account must be open at the time the bonus is credited. The bonus will be reflected on your monthly statement and will be included in your year-to-date interest and year end tax reporting. This offer cannot be combined with any other offers.

I opened one of these accounts under a similar Costco/Capital One promotion last year and have been happy with it. If you are a Costco member, especially an Executive member, then the Costco promotion is better. With an Executive membership you get $60 in bonus money ($20 for Gold and Business) plus a higher interest rate (0.91% vs 0.80% as of today). Finally, the minimum you need to deposit to get the rate and bonus is $5,000, not $10,000.

AT&T Universal Rewards $50 Bonus

AT&T Universal Savings and Rewards CardThis offer is no longer available.

The AT&T Universal Savings and Rewards Card was my very first credit card. I applied for it in my first week on campus at Carnegie Mellon University because I was offered a t-shirt, not because I was some credit savant building my credit history and carving out a good credit score.

One of the great benefits of the card was some free long distance minutes, which was crucial back in the days when I didn’t have a cell phone and had to call home with my dorm room phone. Nowadays, the benefits of owning the card have vastly improved, with a nice $50 statement credit after you make a mere $50 in purchases within 3 months and rewards points you can spend in the ThankYou Rewards Network.

TradeKing $50 New Account and National Friendship Day Promotion

It seems every summer TradeKing runs a promotion where you can get $50 for opening a new account (if you didn’t have one already). Well if you didn’t notice it based on the temperatures outside, it’s summer and TradeKing has brought back their $50 new account promotion this month. If you have $2,500, want a TradeKing account, then this promotion is right up your alley.

The promo is pretty straight-forward. Make a deposit of $2,500 or more within 30 days of opening the account and make one trade within 180 days of opening the account. The $2,500 you deposit has to remain in the account for at least 6 months or you surrender the credit (they say you “may” surrender the credit, so it’s unclear how closely they police this).

There is no promotion code, you just need to click this banner:

Prosper $50 New Account Promotion Offer

A New Way to InvestWhen peer to peer lending first started, the biggest name in the market was Prosper. I was skeptical about the whole business of peer to peer lending and it showed in my review of Prosper, which was more about peer to peer lending than it was about Prosper itself. Since then, with the arrival of SEC oversight and other competing businesses like Lending Club, I have a little more faith in peer to peer lending networks.

TradeKing $50 Promotion: National Friends Day!

National Friendship Day Logo

This promotion has ended but… TradeKing has a new Refer a Friend Offer for $100. Click the link to learn more or email me and I’ll refer you.

Did you know that National Friendship Day was August 3nd? Since 1935, Congress declared the first Sunday in August to be National Friendship Day.

I didn’t, but that’s because my friends never told me! (I just lobbed a softball, someone crush it out of the park already…)

Well, my friends at TradeKing (har har, I think they just like my money) just sent me an email telling me about a promotion where if you refer a friend to TradeKing, both of you get $50.

Here are the important details of the $50 referral promotion:

  • It must be a new account opened between July 31st and August 31st,
  • The referred friend has to fund their account with at least $1,000 within 30 days,
  • The referred friend has to execute at least one trade (trades are $4.95 a piece) within 180 days of opening the account,
  • The funds must remain in the account for at least 180 days.

Is this a good deal? If you don’t have a TradeKing account and have been thinking about it, now’s a good time to do it. If you just want the money, trades are $4.95 a piece so you’re talking a round-trip cost of $9.90, plus your trade is at risk in the market, for a promo of $40.10 on a $1,000 six-month deposit (puts the interest APY, if you like to think in those terms, at ~8%+ APY).

Want in? Shoot me an email with this contact form and I’ll send you a referral. (or directly email me at: if you can't see this, use the contact form)
