We talked about how the adolescent brain tends to not think about long term consequences. We were taught to appeal to the here and now benefits, like if you brush your teeth you won't have bad breath. (ie your friends won't cower in disgust when you talk to them) Threatening that they will need root canals in a couple of years doesn't really work on them.
