Let’s try to start this inauspicious day (oooooh Friday the 13th!) off right with some light personal finance reading you might have missed from some of your friendly neighborhood personal finance bloggers:

FiveCentNickel highlighted a controversial study in Canada which showed that providing alcohol to the homeless reduced run-ins with the law and hospital ER visits ^[3]. Provide me free alcohol and I won’t fight cops or go to the ER, unless you give me too much. And if you have a hot new idea, be sure to register the domain name ASAP ^[4] with GoDaddy ^[5] (10% Off Coupon: SAVETEN) before someone steals it!
AllThingsFinancial is getting concerned about interest only mortgages ^[6] but the part that particular bothers him is how brokers are pushing people to move from one interest only mortgage to another. On the personal front, his wife and him received a Kroger 1-2-3 Rewards card ^[7] that doesn’t appear to be all that appealing.
If you read Free Money Finance regularly, you should already be a millionaire because he’s already on part seven of a Bankrate article ^[8] explaining how easy it is. In case you’re a few steps behind, review Step 6 (Start Your Own Business) ^[9] and Step 5 (Make Your Money Work For You) ^[10]. If you’re still far behind, just buy an index fund and check back in 20 years.
Consumerism Commentary voiced his opinions on a Liz Pulliam Weston article he read about the rent vs. buy question and added some useful insight on the subject, both from a general and a personal perspective. Another article I found useful was a quick one about Asset Allocation ^[11].
